I believe monks only get the fighter abilities. Their fists become +4 weapons at level 25 and they get some AC bonuses too.

I'm currently playing a monk and is VERY powerful. I'm only 18nth level but I average ~15-20 damage with my bare hands, plus quiving palm, stunning blow, magic resistance of 75% ( natural + the 25% you get from Lum's machine), immune to poison, and the list goes on. He has the gauntlets of ogre strength on and that just adds to the damage. They have a high movement rate and when they hit certain levels gain an immunity to magic weapons ( 20nth normal weapons have no effect). I have played this with a fighter/theif and started a sesion with a sorceror but by far the monk kicks butt ( bad pun). I haven't tried a quivering palm on a dragon, but I have read postings about people doing and taking out the ancient red in one shot.

Funny, I got 50% MR from the machine. It might have something to do with your alignment, because I got 100% MR while playing as a Neutral Good character...

Im LG and i could never get mine over 65% no matter what items i stack... lets see 35% base (from machine and SoA ending) + Carsomyr + Amulet of Seldarine = 95%? nope!

That's because Carsomyr doesn't give you 50% MR. It SETS your MR to 50.
