Can't finish without Imoen?

I played for like 6,7th time and I got fed up with Imoen. I already had all the NPCs and when I got to the Assylum I chose not to take her. However, without her I couldn't exit the assylum, kill irenicus for the 1st and the 2nd time. On all 3 occassions Irenicus doesn't finish his sentences cos Imoen should say something in between. anybody else noticed that? or is it just a bug in my game. doubt it, cos Icame back for her all 3 times and then it was all OK. if it is so I think it's annoying cos I'm a fighter/assasin and don't need her, and do need a warrior, and still... I have to have her!!!

 

Refresh my memory, but when does Imoen *have* to say anything past Chapter 1 and the brief meeting with her in Chapter 4? Irenicus shouldn't be waiting on her to say his lines.

 

In the assylum when you free the prisoners and a guy transports you down to Irenicus I was without Imoen and Irenicus didnt react. Actually, it never said END DIALOGUE tli I got Imoen. then she interrupted him, he says something again and everything is ok. anyway... never happened before. weird...

 

Odd, I've never actually gone that far without Imoen in my party, so I wouldn't know...

I've actually tried to Kill Imoen in Irenicus's dungeon at the start of the game but the game won't allow it.

She tried to run off and I blocked her in with Minsc but she vanished. I read somewhere the belt she wears in the dungeon prevents her from being killed.

Now, just have to work out how to get the belt off her. Unfortunately it's written in the program.

No, the belt doesn't make her invincible, it just gives her immunities to things like hold and stun that would stop her from running off before she can die. Once she actually leaves the party is when she becomes invulnerable.

 

Actually, the belt does make her invincible. But only for the Dungeon. I just found the article where David Gaider explains as follows:

Dave: ...there is a technical reason. Initially, we didn’t have the ability to add states onto creatures directly as we do now. We had to put items on them that conferred those states as equipped abilities. We originally put an invisible item with no icon on Imoen’s creature file that made sure that she couldn’t be killed while she was in the original Irenicus dungeon…if she got to the point where she would have, she had to run off and be present for the cut-scene with Irenicus once you escaped. Very late into production, however, one of the testers noticed that you could still select 'something’ in her inventory’s belt slot…and that attempting to drag it anywhere would cause the game to crash. We didn’t want to play around too much with that portion of the game, since it was already supposed to be solid…so instead we made the belt real and gave a vague reason as to why Irenicus might have put it on her. Much of what he did was ultimately unexplained, after all.

 

That just proves what I said, m'lord. It says nothing about her actually being invulnerable *before* running off. It gives her immunities to death magic, or anything that would prevent her from running off.

But, you could maybe do a critical hit which should have killed her and she'd still run off anyway even though she'd be dead. Maybe it gives her an invisible amount of hitpoints?

But either way it doesn't really matter, you can't kill her, so she's invincible. The point I was trying to make is that if you use some hack to give your character the item, he will probably still die, as he doesn't run off like she does when near death.

 

She is also automatically given the "key" to exit up a level in the dungeon in the beginning, no matter WHO gets it out of the chest, it goes into a slot of Imoen's and cannot be removed.

However! I can't stand Imoen (after the first play through I got tired of her) And I always let her find her own way out of the Spellhold dungeon. Funny thing, she actually finds her own way back to the Copper Coronet without my help. I have played all the way through three times just leaving her behind.

What? It never gave her the portal key when I played, I always had it in my character's inventory and it stayed there.
