Well, in my last game ( the one in which I encountered problems when finishing SoA)my main character was neutral ( Shapeshifter) and I had mostly evil NPCs ( Viconia, Korgan, Edwin)...well, in the end, my party was quite powerful and Irenicus didn't last very long.
However, now, with all mods installed etc. I'd like to have a good-aligned group. Can you give me any tips about whom I should include in the party to make it equally powerful? Or what my main character should be(class that can be good...I installed TDD so these kits are also available)I also want to play through one or two romances ( concurrent romances tweak) if possible.

As you have Viconia, Korgan and Edwin, how about characters of the same class but good aligned? For example, for Viconia you could get Aerie or Anomen (LG), to replace Korgan you could get Minsc, Valygar or Mazzy (all tanks) and as for Edwin, you could get Nalia, Imoen, Kelsey or Aerie. I know I haven't labelled ALL of the NPCs, but these are just ideas.

My party of good people would consist of Anomen (LG), Aerie, Kelsey, Imoen and either Kivan or Mazzy. All of these characters are extremely powerful if you use them in the right way. With a party like this, you would have 2/3/4 tanks depending on how you use Imoen and what class your PC was. I would go for a Kensai/Thief PC, but that's just my opinion. Here you would have an active thief and an inactive one.

With a party like that, you could romance Kelsey, Aerie, Kivan and Anomen at the same time. You get the thief stronghold, which is, IMO, the best one, or you could even get the fighter stronghold. The NPC-NPC interaction would also be quite plentiful.

How many characters are you planning to have and what are you particularly looking for?, eg, banter, likeability of character etc?

OK, I've never tried The Darkest Day so I cant speak for the kits included in that, but how does this sound:

    - Fighter type PC (Berserker or Barbarian recommended)
    - Keldorn
    - Valygar
    - Jaheira
    - Aerie
    - Imoen

Thats a nice, simple party with pretty much all the bases covered. Magic power wont be as heavy as it likely was with Edwin and two pure divine casters in your last group, but it'll be enough. Two romances in there, too. If you dont like Valygar and/or you want more magic, you could make the PC a pure mage, replace Valygar with Minsc or Anomen. Whatever happens, you'll have plenty of melee power, all the divine and arcane magic you need to finish the game and some elf-lovin'.

Who is Kelsey? She's not in the original game....
I'm looking for a party that can kick ass, has nice characters (interesting and funny ones) and offers some banter and romance opportunity because I love the exchanges.

You know, for a game that's as old as BG2, it still rocks, thanks to the many modders out there...and of course thanks to the creators in the first place who brought to us an amazing game. You.Guys.Rule!!!

I don't remember what comes with TDD offhand, so here is what I like to call the 'standard good party', romancing either Jaheira or Anomen:

    Keldorn
    Jaheria
    Imoen
    Anomen
    Minsc
    PC - elf F/M multiclass

    Romancing Aerie:

    Keldorn
    Jaheira
    Minsc
    Aerie
    Imoen
    PC - gnome F/T multiclass

For a good banter heavy party:

    Jaheira
    Minsc
    Jan Jansen
    Imoen
    Anomen
    PC - Paladin

Kelsey, human sorcerer, banters with all the NPCs and mostly with Jan:

    Jaheira
    Minsc
    Jan Jansen
    Kelsey
    Anomen
    PC - Paladin

Eridan, I wouldn't mind all too much with the NPC's that TDD has to offer. Imho they're not as good as the ones originally in the game, and besides they do not banter, so your game is going to get boring dialogue-wise.

Depends if you're playing a male or female PC. Good parties can be fighter-heavy and still be extremely powerful. Get Carsomyr early. Make sure someone has proficiency in axe.

For a good party, a Paladin PC is a great choice. Any of the kits are good. Each has their own benefit (I like Cavalier, but Inquisitor makes mage killing easy and Undead Hunter is great for those vampire encounters).

Male PC: Romance Jaheira or Aerie.

    Yoshimo/Imoen
Aerie (to make sparks fly, get HD in your party early)
    Jaheira (makes mage battles easy)
    Minsc
    Keldorn, Mazzy or Valygar

(I had Mazzy and had no problems with chapters six and seven).

    Female PC: Romance Anomen.

    Yoshimo/Imoen
    Aerie
    Jaheira
    Anomen
    Minsc or Keldorn.

If you're truly roleplaying good, you won't keep Keldorn after his quest. However, he has excellent banter with Anomen and Minsc.

Since the OP asked for raw power, these are the top NPCs in BG2 for a good (non-evil party):

Yoshimo (once you've got 100 points in find traps and pick locks, start putting points into set traps. Decent ranged support with Tuigan)

Anomen (ideally with gauntlets of dex, though he takes a while to really come into his own)

Keldorn (with Carsomyr and ideally some kind of dex- and strength-enhancing items. Inquisitor dispel is a powerful ability)

Everyone else non-evil is second-rate at best in terms of raw power compared to the likes of Edwin and Korgan. Except maybe Cernd, who is pretty clearly third-rate. Valygar also skates the line between second and third-rate.

Keldorn (LG), Mazzy (LG), Anomen (LG after his quest), Aerie (LG), Imoen (NG) with a Fighter/Thief is a well rounded party.
If you don't want to wait for Imoen, you could take Nalia.

Valygar is a very specialised charecter. So unless you use him as a scout+backstabber, Keldorn can easily perform better than him.
Minsc is a great charecter but again gets beaten by Keldorn in power.

If it is banter you want then Keldorn, Minsc, Aerie, Anomen, Imoen could provide decent amount of banter.
I did not add Non-Good charecters here or Jan would have been first choice :D

There are many good/neutral NPC to use in this game. If you want a pure good group I would pick up Jaheria and Minsc right from the start and stick with them througout the game. I would pick Yoshimo until he betrays you at Spellhold for a thief. After that any two NPC will work. I would go with Keldron for his dispel magic abilities and his ability to use the Holy Avenger. The final spot you could try something unique like taking Viconcia along and equipping her with the helm of opposite alignment or use Arie since she would also be able to supply you with a back up mage. Or you could go with Amoen since he would supply you with a back up tank character. And for your character I would go with a duel or multiclass. Any combo would work.

    Gnome Fighter/Illusionist
    Jaheira
    Anomen
    Mazzy (halberds!) or Valygar
    Keldorn
    Imoen

Two priests, two wizzies, and everybody is a tank (except Immy, but one archer/spellchucker is cool). Immy is all the thief you will ever need.
