[IMG] What would be good spell selections for a sorcerer going thru the game? I mean what spells would you choose for a sorcerer to be best.:confused::confused:

[IMG] Well, remember you can also cast spells from scrolls, so don't learn spells as Find Familiar. Try to think before your game what spells you chose.

There's a very good guide for sorcerers on SP. Look for that.

[IMG] in my opinion, the best and most useful spells are chromatic orb, magic missile, breach, stoneskin, minor globe of invulnerability, fire shield red, breach, fireball, timestop, abi-dalsim's (sp?) horrid wilting, cloudkill, pierce magic, khelben's warding whip... thats all that comes to mind at the moment. OH!! and melf's minute meteors!!

Khelben's Warding Whip is useless toward the end of the game, where Spell Trap is used, as it doesn't dispel the more high-level spell protections.
    A few i'd go with:
    - Magic Missile
    - Chromatic Orb
    - Identify
    - Burning Hands (just incase)

    - Invisibility
    - Melf's Acid Arrow
    - Mirror Image
    - Blur!
    - Flame Arrow

    - Stoneskin
    - Breach
    - Flameshield (red for defensive, blue for offensive)
    - Pierce Magic

    Just a few ;)

    A few notes

    1. In my selection Skull Trap is selected instead of Fireball. IMO you take one of those but not both. Protection from Magic Energy is a cornerstone in the use of Skull Trap. Cast PfME on your frontline fighters and on your sorcerer. :)

    2. Chromatic Orb is overrated. Target can - and most likely will - save against the special effect which means you pretty much wasted a round. On the other hand it's just a first level spell and it doesn't really matter what you pcik here as long as you get Magic Missile, so take Chromatic Orb if you like it. :)

    3. Pierce Magic (6th level) is not a good spell for a sorcerer.
Secret Word (4th level) is better than Pierce Magic. The only bonus is that you get to lower the targets MR, but if that's what you're looking for Lower Resistance (5th level) and Pierce Shield (8th level) do a better job.

Earl came up with a good list but i'd put progect image in there. Its a very good spell for a sorcer and if you get someone else to cast wizards eye you can use them to explore, not all events will be triggered with this. This gives you all your spells many times over so does prove very useful

[IMG] I agree with Aislaby that Project Image is a very good spell.
I choose Simulacrum instead and besides I'm trying to cut down om my use of those two spells. :D

There are a few that should be taken always. Breach comes to mind as the best spell in the game. Horrid Wilting and Time Stop are prolly the best upper level ones. Unless you want to make your thief invisible to backstab, I'd say that invisibility is worthless as you can't cast spells with it active without removing it. Mislead is good, Stoneskin is a must have. I usually take both fire shields, as well as spell turning and deflection (both useful until you get spell trap.) Don't bother with ST, as the SotM has it as an effect. Ruby Ray or Pierce Shield are good, as is spellstrike. I usually found that breach is enough, as I don't solo so my fighters can finish off enemies. I would also recommend all of the triggers and contigencies as well, they are quite useful in tough fights. Never used the protection spells, as I found them to be not nessesary unless playing solo.

Aside from the ones I said are needed, go with your playing style. You're the one who has to live with your choice.
