I'm trying to solo this game (I've gotten far before, but always gave up). I want to play an Elven Ranger with minimum stats for this solo game!

    That means:

    STR 13
    DEX 13
    CON 14
    INT 8
    WIS 14
    CHA 8

Not too shabby (Elven Rangers have the highest minimum stats of any race/class combination). Anyway, I can't decide if I'd rather play a Stalker or an Archer. Both have pros and cons, but I'd like the opinion of some people who have soloed before on which of these are a better option. I'm looking for the more effective class here!

Note: I have not decided yet whether or not I'll add in the stat bonuses as if I had completed BGI yet, a game I've beaten many times before.

Stalker! I think I've gone on record before about my love of these guys. Archery is all well and good, but you don't lose as much in this department as you gain from the backstab ability and those extra spells, especially soloing. After all, chunking opponents before they can so much as lift a finger in defence is always satisfying.

It's funny Klorox it's now maybe the fifth time that we do BG2 with the same class. :)

I already done a solo with an Archer but at this time I wasn't the killer that I am today. (I didn't know that ranger can stealth, I hope nobody will read this ;) )

Now I'm in BG1 with a Stalker (tutu) and I will do the whole trilogy.

I can say that ***** in long bow with an Archer and a ** in long bow with a Stalker doesn't give you an extra attack. (excep the bonus to hit and a lot of things that I don't need to use anyway)

But the ** in any weapon with the Stalker who can backstab give you an extra attack and with the * of the Archer you have one attack less.

    The 3 spells... I don't ****in care, he's not a mage.

I will probably kill Sarevok tonight. I hope that I'll can begin BG2 tonight. But that's the begin of the NHL and Montréal will beat Boston. :)

    Se ya :) :) :)

Also stalker. The archers can be truly deadly with a party, but solo all they've got is the small amount of time it takes the enemy to charge. Then you're *****ed.

Stalker for me, too. As was said, the ** in a weapon are much better than just one *. To get away from the game, 'stalker' sounds much cooler than 'archer'. Hey bud, I'm a stalker to back off! ;)

I'd say archer. Its one of the most fun solos I've ever done. Boots of speed to get range, arrows of dispelling to take down tough mages... ahh, the memories

Stalker for me. The archer is much more overpowered, but loses a lot in solo, when all you've got is one or two rounds before you're surrounded by a pack of enemies. The Stalker is more versatile, hence more suited for solo play. The spells complement his innate abilities rather nicely.

    LOL.

Pretty decisive vote: 12 -3 in favor of the stalker.

I chosed Stalker too. In other cases, I prefer the Archer. But this being a solo game, Stalker is the way to go.

They are arrows that cast dispel magic on their target when hit.

aside from that: soloing with an archer is feasible if you've got the boots of speed, am i wrong ?

i advise against taking an archer for soloing, its a real pain in the b* to level up with this guy, all i do is run in circles shooting arrows waiting for the foes to go down

i'm thinking of starting over and making my char a stalker instead

hehe true enough, this guy's a team player

btw, what do you people think of azuredge ? i've used it against undead (skeleton wariors etc...) and it doesnt do a thing, its a rip off !

oh yeah i've started over with a stalker this time and its real fun, although his backstab damage is the same as the normal one..... am i doing something wrong ?

Azuredge is fantastic against at least Vampires. Used it all the time.
