[IMG] As Tal says, The Outline of ToB wasn't desides yet, so there is a reason why they are all humans or humanoid. No trick about Dragons or giants sitting around a table.

As for Yaga Shura's mother. Bhaal foresaw his own destiny and made his children before he was made mortal. Anyway the intro movie makes that rather clear... ;)

The 7th robed person. Abizigal's son? That could very well fit. There could even have been eight or ten robed figures around that table. We can't blame anyone. All we can do is assume. Which is what, we are good at... :1eye:

The spawn of Bhaal is doomed, not the spawn of Bhaal *are* doomed. Notice the difference? I'm no english teacher, but it sounds correct to me.

And the dragons could shapechange into human forms, which they infact had when you first met them in ToB. Guess they're just comfortable in a smaller form :p

No spawn of bhall is doomed could just as easily apply to a hundred people. If they are his spawn.

Spawn is one of those interesting words in the English language that is the same in singular as in plural.

Rather than using milk as an example, try sheep.

"The sheep is cold" refers to one sheep.
"The sheep are cold" refers to multiple sheep.

[IMG] So you can say the spawn of trouts are endangered? And not the spawn of trouts is endangered... What should be the meaning of that? :hmm: Well I learn something new each day. I am sorry Volar. :(

Anyway Spawn is can still be all the ofspring of ONE Herring or God. Just as Vukodlak says. :)

[IMG] BTA - (slightly off topic I know (well quite a lot really)) why did you use the adjective cold in that example? I mean sheep is cold (or are) is not the first thing that comes into my mind??

Anyway back on topic (well, not really):

    spawn v. & n.

    — v.
1a tr. (also absol.) (of a fish, frog, mollusc, or crustacean) produce (eggs). b intr. be produced as eggs or young.
2tr. derog. (of people) produce (offspring).
3tr. produce or generate, esp. in large numbers.

    — n.
1the eggs of fish, frogs, etc.
    2derog. human or other offspring.
3a white fibrous matter from which fungi are produced; mycelium.

So as far as I can see the same kind of thing as offspring? By saying "his offspring is cold" I would mean all of them and not just one, right?

[IMG] I had foreseen you would mention offspring, it is your destiny...

I used cold just to keep it in line with NobleAngel's milk example. :)

Trout is also one of those words that is singular and plural, so there are no trouts. :) It depends on what you mean; the form of the verb you use indicates which you meant.

Offspring is again one of those words (boy English is just chock full of them isn't it?). For example "That offspring is cold." meaning a specific one, and "Those offspring are cold." meaning specific ones (plural), or possibly all of them.

Remember, the inflectional form of the verb must agree with what it refers to. In other words, a plural subject requires the plural form of the verb.

[IMG] Damn, I missed this one. And just my field, too. :p

Anyway, you've been listening about A or ONE Bhaalspawn (refered to yourself alone) since SoA on. I'd think that would give you a hint that spawn is not plural only.

[IMG] "The spawn of Bhaal are doomed"

It just sounds wrong in my english ear. That one can say it. I better have them checked. I admit I am on a wrong track...

Did -----> he just say that. :1eye:

I think I might be able to end this discussion once and for all...

Last sentence in the SoA ending movie:
*The spawn of Bhaal are doomed*

Someone in the SoA part of the game says:
*... just as all the other Bhallspawns.*

    See the "s" after spawn??
This means that the spawn that the guys in robes are talking about has to be someone specifig (ie. the player character).

That means, that the only persons that could be sitting around the table are either: Harpers or Bhaalspawns

IF and only IF you do the Jaheira romance in SoA will you see the dialogue where Elminster says that the harpers have lost interrest in the player character (and Jaheira).
This means that it can't be the Harpers sitting around the table, and here we have the answer:
The people at the table are Bhaalspawns...
(However, I do not know who the 2 others are (remember??? 5 powerfull Bhaalspawns, but 7 around the table))...

Hope this would clear things out...

Could it be that the real reason for the use of the term "Bhaalspawn" is to avoid having to use a personal pronoun ("he" or "she") so that there wouldn't have to be two versions of the movie?

good thinking. another (and maybe better) solution would have been the last guy just saying "there is no escape", omitting "the spawn of Bhaal is doomed" or whatever. that would save tons of discussion here:p

perhaps the designers wanted to design a "gang of 7" by the time SoA released, but reduced it to 5 due to time limit or sth else.

Well "The spawn of Bhaal is doomed" doesn't suggest any gender, so I doubt it makes a difference. Else I think their plans would contain a conspiracy with the genderbender

Amazing. For the 4th or 5th time, those robed figures are OTHER BHAALSPAWN. There can be no second guessing or speculation. As I posted numerous times before, BioWare already answered this question.

But then again, I suppose we have some wiseguys here who think that BioWare doesn't know what they put in their own game, or that they know better.
