BGT was an effort by Bardez over at TeamBG to roll BG1 into BG2 and create a seemless game, starting in Candlekeep all the way through to the end of ToB. It requires BG1, TotSC, BG2, and ToB.

Real life caught up with Bardez, and he can no longer support the mod. To my knowledge, no more development is being done on it, including bug fixes. I know some folks are working on bringing some features of BGT into Tutu, which is a project to port BG1 into BG2. If you're just looking to play BG1 in the BG2 engine, I would recommend Tutu as it is still an active project, doesn't require either of the expansions, and is a much smaller download (~1mb vs ~700mb).

Oh, Okay, thanks for telling me that BGT WAS that big! Whoa, I only have dial-up so I'm going to BGTutu but does either of them improve the graphics/interface at all for Baldur's Gate 1?

Yes. Both of them use the Baldur's Gate 2 engine, which includes the BG2 interface.

BGT does not require BG1 or ToTSC, Tutu does.

The early packages of BGT did not require BG1 or TotSC, allowing for some copyright loopholes. The latest distro requires both.

    Tutu does not require TotSC.

Oh, ummm...does it improve the in-game graphics at all though?

I'm not really sure what you're asking.

With either, you play with the BG2 engine, which uses the BG2 avatars, graphics, and animations. Areas, game portraits, etc. are just imported from BG1 and look the same. The game can also be played at resolutions higher than 640x480.

Playing BG1 at 1024*768 makes it look a hell of a lot better. It looks like they improved the area graphics, even though they didn't (with Tutu).

I liked the appearance of the plate mail and full plate armor in the avatar screen from Bg1 better so I was pleasantly surprised that bg1tutu kept the appearance of all the weapons and items from bg1 in Tutu.

I found thief traps rule in tutu especially if you go to known spawn points of high xp giving enemies (preferably sirines to get arrows of biting). Call me mr. cheese.

    Speaking of cheese.

I remember in BG an extremely easy way to get to top level before leaving Candlekeep, just kill Firebead and keep on importing and exporting to you get to top level. I got a full level F/M once doing this. :D
