So I was strolling along having a good time in my BG1 game. Then I got a magic item labeled something like sw1h05 or something like that. Not a huge deal, I figure, because it probably just means one of my many mods has a bug in it. I figure I can't really troubleshoot it since I have so many mods it would be hard to determine which one caused the bug.

So, anyway, I hopped over to Gamefaqs and dl'ed the BG1 item list so I could find out what item the code meant. +1 longsword, go figure. Usually I'd be psyched to get a +1 longsword but, strangely enough, in this run through the game it seems nobody uses that class of weapon.

So while I'm looking at the item list I figured I'd take a peak at magic clubs since Jaheira is going to be in my party for the duration. Imagine my surprise when I find out that there are NO magic clubs in BG1. This I find irritating and it seems to be a major oversight in game design.

Now I'm wondering if the heroic mod community has addressed this issue. Do any of the more popular mods add a magic club? I hope so, otherwise Jaheira wasted two proficiency points.

BG1NPC Mod adds a club specifically made for Jaheira.

Also, BG1UB adds 1 other magical club, or rather fixes it (Don't remember which)

Okay, great. I know there's some decent clubs in BG2 she can use. Glad to hear she's not going to be using a 1gp weapon the whole game. Pretty weird that the devs neglected the weapon seeing how Jaheira is supposed to be with you until BG2.

Her proficiency points are in "Blunt Weapons", that includes Quarterstaves as well as Clubs. So perhaps it wasn't such an oversight as you can get a +1 Quarterstaff as early as Beregost.

Oh, that's right. One of my mods gives BG2-style proficiencies. So while it is "wrong" in my game it isn't according to the unmodded game. Good point.

SCS v5 (I think) makes some weapons without proper names sw1h05, or at least I saw this with only one new mod version and that was SCS v5.

You are correct that there aren't any magical Clubs in the game though. According the BG1 UB, there was supposed to be a "Club +1, +3 VS Unnatural Creatures". Mike's RPG Center also supports this claim. I guess it was either cut or just plain left out of the final release.

Hmmh, I guess that would be the "Root of the Problem", which you can get in BG2 if you play as a Druid.

Yes I'm fairly sure I've played with the root of the problem in BG1, but I don't remember if it was easytutu or the original...

I usually give druids scimitars instead of clubs in D&D games.

There aren't any scimitars in Baldur's Gate besides Drizzit's. So really, Jaheira's got a choice between daggers or quarterstaves for melee weapons. Geez, somebody in development REALLY dropped the ball there. One of the "staple characters" of the series and she gets jipped on weapons in the first game.

EDIT: Thanks for correcting me. There are Scimitars in Durlag's Tower.
