I really shouldn't do this. I shouldn't start thinking about my next run through when I'm still in the BG1 segment of the current run through.

Anyway, I was reading through the Saerileth mod review, and I want to try her out. I feel that such an NPC with a such high standards for good should have a party to match.

Ergo, the goody-goody-two-shoes party. So, I thought about it for a bit, and figured the PC should be an Undead Hunter. Combined with Saerileth (Cavalier) and Keldorn (Inquisitor) that's one of all the Paladin kits.

Then I thought, what the hell, Anomen can become knighted, and Mazzy is practically a paladin as well. That leaves one spot left. Unfortunately, the only other LG character in the game is Aerie, which doesn't really complete the party too well. For starters, we don't have a thief, and she would also be the only mage, and not even capable of obtaining all too high levels.

Therefore, I'm going to justify taking Yoshimo along, but for as short a time as possible. Therefore, I will have to rush to Spellhold to pick up Imoen. Even though Imoen is not LG, I think she will fit in well enough with the party. It will give me a servicable thief, and also allow me to have a mage that is capable of casting 9th level spells (OK technically Aerie can cast 9th level spells, but not until late ToB).

Next up is can I outfit this party properly? It should be possible, depending on what proficiencies Saerileth has. I'm assuming she's standard paladin in terms of weapons, and some combination of long swords, bastard swords, and two handed swords are in there somewhere.

You: Carsomyr... Like there was another choice ;)
Keldorn: Improved Redeemer & Firecam Armor
Saerileth: Dual Long Swords (answerer) & Bastard Swords (foebane)
Anomen: FoA // Crom & Shield
Mazzy: Improved Sword of Avoreen // Slings
Imoen: Staff of Magi // Gesen Bow

Actually, for an undead hunter there is another choice. I was thinking dualling IMoD along with Daystar, which I'll eventually be able to upgrade (although I think it requires a bunch of prot. for undead scrolls - more than you can purchase from Ribald).

Also, I'll probably give Mazzy points in Flail, so she'll get the FoA. Anomen already has one star in War Hammers, so he'll get Crom Faeyr. Imoen just might get Celestial Fury, as no one else will be using it.

...well of course there's another choice, i was being glib. **pimp-slaps Aldeth**
But someone has to wield that uber sword and Item Upgrade Mod makes Keldorn half-decent without it.

If you're not bothered about the alignment being strictly Lawful Good, i'd suggest picking up Kelsey to round out your team. Afterall you're leaving Jaheria & Minsc in their cages, might aswell let Imoen rot in Spellhold. :)

Which still leaves him without a thief. Yes, you could summon monsters or trip traps yourself, but why get injured when a thief is so useful? :p

What upgrade mods do you have, Aldeth? Just Item Upgrade?

The only thing about your Undead Hunter using those weapons (which I like because I like having themed characters) is that you're giving NPP to a character that already has it. So when you go to fight vampires, you'll end up giving the IMoD to someone else likely.

UCLA has a point. You might consider giving the mace to Saerileth instead.

Also there is no reason to neglect Carsomyr. It is one of the most potent weapons in the game and you are taking a party that's basically based around somebody wielding it.

If your going to wield Foebane then you have no reason to upgrade the purifier and that just adds to Carsomyr as well.

edit: Though from something in the mod readme there is a suggestion that Saerileth gets a hammer and shield combination of some point as I recall.

If you're really going to roleplay it, no paladin would ever get the IMoD in the 1st place. After all, it isn't lawful to accept a contract from Sir Sarles, and then attempt to decieve him...

Many temples sell these as well. You can get plenty.

    @Truper:

    Sarelith Spoiler:

There's a store in the mod where you can actually BUY illithium ore, so you don't have to cheat with the Sarles quest.

Which mod are you talking about? because I've been trying to figure out how to do the Sarles quest with my Cleric when it gets into SoA.

    Yet MORE Saerileth Spoilers:

You'll find the store in Sigil, after Saerileth gets kidnapped. Make sure you buy everything you want BEFORE completing the quest to get the cheesy thing you need to get.

Aldeth: Your goody-goody make me sick :D

Now, seriously, you need more "magicians" in you group, maybe Aerie?

Giving the Improved Mace of Disruption is silly for an Undead Hunter. You've already got the level draining immunity.

Well, if he's really REALLY going to roleplay it, he'd have to get everyone out of the dungeon. It's not very knightly to leave your friends in a dark, dingy place like that.

Wow! Been away for a few days, so my apologies. Geez, I'll try to answer all the questions:

The only mods I have installed currently are Ease of Use and Item Upgrade.

I agree that giving an Undead Hunter an item that provides negative plane protection is wasteful in the sense that he already has permanent negative plane protection, I was just thinking of making a character that was specifically designed to kill undead.

Just because my PC isn't using Carsomyr doesn't mean that no one will be using Carsomyr. I have 3 paladins in this party for gosh sakes!

I have never upgraded Keldorn's sword, because I never remember to hold onto dispel magic scrolls. I believe you need five of them to upgrade his sword. If I have an Inquisitor and need to cast DM, you can bet he's the one who's going to be casting it. So I don't know where to buy five scrolls, and I'm too much of an idiot to hold on to five of them I gradually accumulate to upgrade the sword.

To the people suggesting I take Kelsey, Aerie, or anyone else who lacks thieving skills, I'd rather have a thief.

Just because I'm making a goody-goody two shoes party does not mean that I would leave Jaheira and Minsc to rot in their cages. I would be honor bound to free them and see them safely to the surface!

Ah, so your playing to their character type, thats changes their equipment set up.

Undead Hunter - Axe (Azuredge), Mace (Mace of Disruption), Hammer (Runehammer) Longsword (Daystar) and of course a shield with the Ghostbusters logo on it ;)

Inquisitor - 2 Handed (Carsomyr), Longsword (Answerer), possibly Halberd (Wave) and Hammer (Crom Fayer) afterall golems/elementals are magical constructs.

Cavalier - Halberds (Dragon's Breath / Bane), Long Swords (Dragonslayer) Sling (Arla's Dragonbane) Katana (Celstial Fury), Dragon Shield & Plate.

Just started BG1 last night. On the second roll, I acheived one of my all time high rolls. There wasn't a single stat that was below 14. So I did my standard paladin development - dump wisdom points to 13, dump intelligence down to 9, and then try to max out everything else. As it turned out, after maxing everything else, I had 4 points left over! Meaning that my intelligence got bumped to 13 instead of 9. The only thing I don't like is the exceptional strength score - 53. But heck, with the other stats I'll live with it, especially considering it will be 19 by the end of BG1 anyway.

Entering BG2, I should have these stats:

    Str: 19
    Dex: 19
    Con: 19
    Int: 14
    Wis: 16
    Cha: 19

Wow, wow and triple wow. I'll probably sacrifice a point in wisdom to the demon, and following the hell trials, Dex will drop to 18 (which affects nothing but missile weapons which I don't see me using much of), while my wisdom will return to 16 and my cha will be upped to 20.

After Lum's machine, I'll be looking at:

    Str: 20
    Dex: 19
    Con: 20 (regenerating!)
    Int: 15
    Wis: 17
    Cha: 20

This changes item selections quite a bit. Naturally, I won't be using any weapon that gives a strength bonus, when I'm sitting at 20 with no additional modifiers.
