[IMG] I've started soloing with a mage/thief multiclass. And nothing says "solo" like a spell that damages everyone in the area except the caster...

Well I was in the cemetery, in the Crypt King's tomb specifically, and I unleashed a Sunfire upon the self-proclaimed King and his Skeleton Warriors (I have Tactics mod installed). I didn't expect much, but to my amazement the Skeleton Warriors got creamed by my Sunfire! All of them got struck down to "badly injured"!

Aren't they supposed to have, like, 95% magic resistance? Or does Sunfire go through MR? Maybe it's because Skeleton Warriors are more vulnerable to fire? Anybody know?

    [Edit: typos]

For a start Magic Resistance does not lower the damage, its a chance of stopping it altogether. Whereas Sunfire does 'fire' damage and undead have a habit of being vulnerable to fire. Also the fact that Sunfire is an area affect spell might result in it being classed as Magic Fire and not Magic.

So do you think Fireball, Aganazzar's scorcher and other fire spells all have a better chance of injuring undead with high magic resistance?

If so, Skeleton Warriors aren't as tough as I thought!

Im pretty sure the crypt king has mummies, not skeleton warriors. If so then naturally mummies are badly injured by the spell sunfire.

There's also luck. It's possible all your opponents failed their MR roll and their saves.
The chances are remote, but its possible.

It's this simple: Sunfire ignores magic resistance ! You can also unleash it on Drow very effectively. ;)

    *whistles*
    Are you sure?
If so, the spell just gained 5 more slots in my book. :D
A bug? But a good one at that.

@ Strifestrike: they were indeed Skeleton Warriors in my game. The crypt king summons four at the start of the fight, then a few more later on.

@ Leslie, Scythesong, Cryonic: well, long live the mighty Sunfire, then!

Are there any other "buggy" spells like that?

I think Dragon's Breath bypasses MR, whereas Comet doesnt...which makes the spell suck as it is.

The Oversight mod changes the Comet spell to do crushing and cold damage that bypasses MR. You might want to try that :) .

OK, guys here's a list of all the spells that ignore magic resistance:

you better copy-paste this somewhere (as I did once a loooong time ago):

    Arcane:
    --------
    All the spell protections removals
    Strength - level 2
    Teleport Field - level 4
    Sunfire - level 5
    Breach - level 5
    Lower Resistance (obviously ;) ) - level 5
    Imprisonment - level 9

    Divine:
    --------
    Magic Resistance - level 5
Bolt of Glory - level 6
    False Dawn - level 6
    Sunray - level 7
Earthquake - level 7 (not 100% sure about this)

There are also two spells which come in TOB with High Level Abilities - Dragon's Breath and Implosion - both ignore MR.

And - I don't think Sunfire is buggy. That's how it was implemented.
