    [IMG] Hey all- Theres already a post about this on this board, but its simply horrible. So I'm askin everyone to put up

    A. Your favorite character type or kit or multi or dual or whatever to play with and why

    B. Your favorite character type or kit or multi or dual or whatever and why

    For example, my favorite character type to play with is the kensai with grand mastery in katana and warhammer and two weapon style and my fav solo character is either a fighter dualed to mage at level 8 or the undead hunter

    Also allow me to explain my solo class choices before people go crazy on me. A fighter dualled to mage at level 8 still hits max fighter level and will still be an awesome fighter. Let me explain what i did- First, I collected as many scrolls as I could in Irenicus’s dungeon, including dups and everything. Then, I went to the dungeons exit. I then dual classed to mage and learned every spell I had collected, erasing and relearning any dups. Then, I exited the dungeon and gained the quest points. Then, I went to the free the slaves quest and finished that. After that, I leveled up and jumped from level one to level nine. Doing this, I didn’t waste any proficiency points because I had put my one starting proficient point and quarter staff and my abilities all came back in time for me to put my next proficient slot in quarterstaff. This gave me a mage with 2 points in two handed weapon, three in long bow, and three in quarter staff. He is unbelievably great at casting, and actually pretty good at fighting with the staff of the magi. Sweet, just sweet. And to explain the undead hunter, he’s immune to level drain and gains a bonus to fighting undead, in specific, lich and vampire. Fighting for the shadow theifs against the vamps, he is just awesome.

    well i havent soloed yet.....but will post my favourite char so far....

    kensai\thief 25\27

    with grandmastery in katanas and longsword wielding angurvadal +5 and celestial fury
    i chose angurvadal instead of cromfayer to be able to backstab.

    this char does alot of damage and have alot of hp.
    can wear all armor types thx to use all items ability.

    also the backstab isnt that bad (135).

    anyway.....this char is my favourite beacuse it gets the benefits from a kensai and benefits from a thief...my thac0 was : main hand:-21 and off hand: -17 which is nice for a thief.
    my ac was -14

    so i just love this char.....

    i got plenty of other chars that is good, but this one is the best well made one.

    i just posted a topic about how to calculate damage and the answers i got will let me be able to make even better chars.

    I just loves the Kensai.

    It was the leader of my absolutly first party and I've finished SoA five times with a kensai.

    They are pure fighters. They have themselves... and their weapon.

    And when duelclassed to mage or thief they becomes GODS!

    I'll take the archer. He can do as much damage as the Kensai with an even better THAC0 and at a distance. Give him some arrows of dispelling for those pesky mages and you're set. Sadly, as the Archer doesn't truely shine until high levels, dualing to a mage is not an option. :(

    I know I'm going to catch flack for this, along with some Aerie comparisons, but here goes. A half-elf multi-classed, neutral good, cleric-mage is my all-time favorite main character to play, it terms of pure role-playing appeal. Many people favor dual classing characters, but I believe that by the time you hit ToB, multi-classed characters are stronger due to more HLA's. I took my character through BGI before SoA and ToB, and so my basic stats a pumped through the roof. I have a 19 INT and 21 WIS, which basically means that this character can take on the casting needs of the entire party. (OK, no druid, but they are more of a novelty than a necessity.) As such, it essentially frees up a slot in your party, which normally has to have a space reserved for both a cleric and a mage. Aerie is a bad NPC, but that's basically because her starting stats prevent her from getting many additional spells in cleric and the ability to cast high level spells as a magic-used. I have all bases covered. Oh, and with my INT and WIS scores, my lore was exceptional, even from very early in the game.

    Most people think Kensai, sorcerer and monk are the best which I don't really understand. You have to see the game as a whole. These three characters are very weak for a very long time. And I hate 'run and hide and wait' tactics. It's perfectly good in real life, but in the game it makes no sense.
    My favourite is Berserker/cleric, or just plain Berserker. Immune to everything.
    My all time powerful one was 25/31 assasin/fighter. But it didn't worth it, Mellison and her demons can kill me easily. (unless I run.)

    14: I think that the Kensai, the Sorcerer and the Monk are as best when soloing. They will level up and become very powerfull really quick and mabye it is when soloing that so many else loves those kits.

    But they are also very good in partys where they can hide behind the other pary members untill they becomes what they should be.

    @14

    I see where you're coming from about those 3 classes, though I disagree a bit. I don't think they take all that long at all to get powerful. But that's just been my experience. Love that Sorcerer. :)

    However, I disagree about the solo class Berserker. I think the Barbarian is much better. People overlook them because they can't wear plate mail, but this makes little sense because the best chainmail in the game is only 2 AC points worse than the best plate mail in the game. The Barbarian has a much better rage, is fast as hell, and is a hitpoint powerhouse. They can't get grand-mastery in anything, but GM is a waste of proficiency slots anyway. Give the Barbarian a try. They're just funner if you ask me. I've never had a bad experience with one. Have you tried them before?

    @Death Rabbit

    Your definately right- Barbarian are way overlooked. However, there is on major disadvantage you overlooked- they move faster than everyone else. This is great in a solo game, but in a game with a party, this means they reach places much faster than everyone else, and gets really annoying when they start getting pummeled. Great for soloing though.

    @14
    You think Kensai is weak- Are you kidding me???? They are great in the beginning, and absolutely unstoppable in the end. Ive never played through the game completely with one because i hate playing with power characters, but go on tonight, make a Kensai and set him to level 22, where he achieves grand mastery in both warhammer and katana. Fight anyone in the game with him. I doubt, using the right strategy, many people will give you a challenge. Now set him to 12. Fight someone whos pretty challenging with him. Hes still gonna kick ass better than people double his level. I can see why you dislike Sorcerer and MOnk though- Monk is a mage without spells until lvl 15 and Sorcerer is worse than a specialist mage and cant be dualled to

    @Foppish Idiot- I like your idea, especially since you imported from BG1. Talk about unstoppable. In TOB, that guy can time stop, improved alcatracity, summon planetar, then use dragons breath, plus heal himself. Great Idea

    Finally, @Alex- Archer is a great choice, truely allows for powerful long range fighter. Only problem is early in the game lack of powerful arrows.

    @ andrew

    That's not really a disadvantage so much as an annoyance. That extra speed is really helpful in battles - especially when you need to switch gears mid-battle to defend your mage, chase someone down, etc. Having 1 character that beats everyone else to various locations is a very, very small price to pay for that added benefit.

    Hmm best character you say...

    Well I have to stick with berzerker, when duallwielding a katan(celestial fury) and a axe(axe of unyielding when you get it) they are allmost unstoppable. Whith their enrage not even Kangaxx can get to you. Pure slaughter.

    They can be quite annoying when playing through SoA since the lack of katanas and axes higher than +3.

    My favorites characters would have to be a monk, although they are overpowered they are fun to play. I also like Kensai/thiefs using either longswords or kantanas. I also like archers. I haven't tried all of them yet so that is all I can say.

    @andrew.
    How are monks weak untill level 15? Mine never had a problem the whole game, in a party of Keldorn, Valygar, Aerie, Edwin, and Imoen. And I would disagree with the statement that sorcerers suck. Once you know what spells you like to use they are much more powerfull than a mage, unless that mage is Edwin.

    Why Berserker over the Barbarian?

    You will probably think this is a little cheap, but I like Archers, and I'll tell you why. You get a character with unbelievable ranged abilities who also has the highest possible hit points (except for the Barbarian). I find melee combat to be rather risky, and so having a character who it isn't cowardly for him to hang back and engage in ranged combat is cool. I load him up with the best possible armor, the ring of Gaxx, the ring of earth elemental control, the cloak of the sewers, a helm with +1 AC and a good necklace. Kick butt AC. I hate risking melee with my PC.

    Good call, Dep. I agree with you that archers kick serious boo-tay. I just created one tonight. Human, female, 18/65 Strength and (of course)18 dex, and at level 8, fresh out of Chateau Irenicus, has a thaco of 5 and 4 attacks per round :eek: . Now that's with regular arrows and a regular composite long bow. I've never used an Archer before - and now I'm wondering what the hell I was thinking!

    No one has mentioned the mage yet. I pity the poor high level Kensai/Kensai-Mage/Kensai-Thief or better yet anything without comparable spellcasting levels that comes after my Wild Mage...

    But my kensai dualled to mage @ lvl 8 hits max mage level, so he's just as good as your wild mage, and can fight 2

    @Fade
    I'm just sayin that a monk will have a mage's armor class, can only be proficient with weapons, and in my mind just generally sucks until level 15. However, i've only played a very small part of the game with one because they get so powerful it gets boring, so ill have to try one and see for myself

    Yes they are very powerfull, but I didn't get bored with mine untill mid-way through TOB. Well, I guess I am not bored with him, I just felt like trying a Kensai/Thief. :D

    Anyways nothing before level 15 is overly difficult so not like it matters. :D

    With the no exp cap fighter-wizard rules mostly all classes. Generally only if you take them through BG1. I have 1 that I did. Insane for combat with almost and weapon, plus the devestating spells. Plus I always have anti-res and anti-protection spells at the ready for those that think magic res will help. Some people think I'm weird because one of my main weapons is staff of power but I laugh when I beat them with it. Insane power when you actually have the time to make something this powerful.

    Kagnaxx... LOL... Childsplay.
    Demogorgon... Meh.
    A horde of dragons rushing at you and blasting you with spells, now that's fun!
