I am playing with just a pair of characters and use the Wand Of Monster Summoning to provide the necessary fodder. Unlike BG1 there is a limit of 5 summoned creatures.

I can work with this as I replace them as they die but Kangaxx caused serious problems becaused imprisoned monsters still count against the total (for the duration of the spell).

I had to run away an buy a pair of Protection from Magic scrolls.

Kangaxx was easy having read these.

It is rather distressing, being used to summoning massive packs of wolves and hobgoblins, and finding yourself limited to five ogres, or what have you. Then again, the summons in Throne of Bhaal are so much nastier than in Baldur's Gate, so I know why it is that way.

Incidentally, the D0Tweak mod has a component to remove the summoning limit. I'm not promising it's entirely balanced, but... :)

Simulacrums and Project Immages don't have the cap - so if you create one of these you can make them do the summoning - it uses up less spells and you can create an almost limitless supply of whatever you want - just like in Baldurs Gate (original)

In a side note, today while I was continuing my solo with the Cleric/Mage (couldn't keep interest in the munchkin party :p ), I was summoning skeletons with Animate Dead in Irenicus' dungeon to keep the beasties at bay...and it summoned 3 skeletons in the first cast and 3 more in the second! I wasn't sure if that was possible, so I counted them to make sure. There were 6 in total.

Anyone know how this is possible?

Cool ! No, I... wait. They can count both your mage and cleric sides, so you get 1-2 skeletons as a mage and 1-2 as a cleric?

But when I played with Aerie and she cast the spell, she only summoned one or two. Strange indeed.

@Hydragyrum: yes, they can. And more, if you have ten charges and your silmulacrum uses a wand, you still have ten charges - they aren't wasted.

But the wand has to be in the mages quickslot before he/she casts the simulacrum/project image because you cannot access the simulacrum/project image's inventory. The same goes with scrolls.

Cast 'project image' and use everything you want. After all, you are using the resources of the image, so once the spell is over you haven't lost anything. Wands, potions, spells; anything you have in your quick-slots. ;)
