I have a few simpleton questions about this BG1 Tutu if anyone could be so kind as so help out a newbie! :D

I have tried several unsuccessful times to install this thing. But I thought I'd have another go. I have loads of mods etc. so my folders looked a mess. So I uninstalled EVERYTHING to do with BG1/2 and cleaned my directory, in order for me to start over.

    So heres a few questions:

    1) Is this OK: I install BG1 full. I dont have ToTSC, so that doesn't get installed. I install BG2: SoA full. I install BG2: ToB full. I then try (emphasis on 'try'!) to install BG1 TutuV42 (is this the latest one?). Is this the correct procedure?

    2) The download package is .rar so I just unpack all the files into: C:bad:Program Files\Black Isle\BG2 SoA (which is my BG2 dir). Or do the files need to go somewhere else? In the override folder or something like that...?

    3) The installation instructions tell me to open the 'Configuration' file with Word or something. Ok, I can do that. But then it says change the 'Source' and 'Target' lines to my BG1 and Bg2 directories respectively. On mine though, these are already there (they have the correct directories already set in!). Should it be like that, or is something wrong? I figure I'm off to a bad start already as one of the installation instructions is already going a bit awry!

    4) Do you change (or in my case, not change) the above file BEFORE you run the .exe or after? And which folder do you run the .exe from?

    5) On the off-chance that I DO manage to install BG1 Tutu, how do you start to play it? Do I use the BG1 discs or does on play the game using the SoA/ToB disc? (newbie question I know, but I figure as your using the BG2 engine, you might need the BG2 discs!)

I did once think that I'd manage to get it installed. In other words, I did the rabove and ran the .exe. It spent about minutes doing something then it went off. I thought it must have installed it so I put the BG1 disc in but when I tried to start a new game, it just sent me back to desktop with no kind of error messages. That led me to believe that the installation didn't go as swimmingly as I thought!

Please help a newbie people! As I love the idea of this mod and really want to play it! It's just a shame it isn't as user friendly as I would ideally want it to be! :p

Thanks in advance for any help!

PS: I may be back later with more questions! lol!

    Update:

Well. i thought I had managed to install it (I did the above, and started the game with BG1 disc).

One thing that narrowed my eyes is that when i ran the .exe it asked me all the questions about kit's etc. Then it started listing things. It was doing this for about a minute at most, then it just stopped and closed. The installation guide says it should be 3-6 minutes.

When I try to start a new game though, it says: 'An Assertion failed in D:bad:Dev\Balder\CGameEffect.cpp at line number 808'
And then cut down to desktop.

Someone help me out please, this is doing my head in. Plus whenever it f*cks up I have to uninstall the games and re-install them. That in itself takes about an hour.

Bloody well annoying. Help would be very much appreciated.

One thing that is confusing with bgtutu is that if you want to start it, you need to put your TOB cd and start a game of Baldur's Gate 2. You seem to have installed it fine. Don't worry if it only say : 54% of file converted. It a normal thing. I re-installed the whole thing 3 time only because I was trying to start it on Bg1! Hope that help. ;)

You use the BG2 discs...try running the ToB shortcut on the start menu and see what happens.

    Your installation procedure sounds correct.

Oddly enough, the same thing happened to me, right down to the 'An Assertion failed in D:bad:Dev\Balder\CGameEffect.cpp at line number 808' thing. I have no idea how to install bgtutu correctly, so I reccomend Baldur's Gate Trilogy instead.

    1) Yep. Before running Tutu, though, you should install all the proper patches and fixpacks for both BG1 and BG2. Tutu v4 is the current version.

    2) If extracted properly, you should have bg1tutu.exe and bg1tutu folder in the root of your BG2 folder.

    3) This is fine. The config file comes pointing to the default install directories; since you installed BG1 and BG2 to default folders the file is already pointing to them.

    4) Config needs to be set before running Tutu.

    5) As others already mentioned, by starting BG2 with the ToB disc in the drive.

Hang in there; it's well worth it! Once you get it installed, download the newly-published fixpack. (In the spirit of shameless self-promotion, download my Tutu Tweak Pack as well!)

    Thanks for the replies guys!

I just tried putting the ToB disc in. It autoruns and I click Play. But then I still get the usual selection of SoA or ToB menu :( .

I will unstall everything ONE more time! And then try it again. If it doesn't work this time I'm gonna stamp my feet, head butt my monitor and scream alot!
