Anyone help with the following?

Those rods that are supposed to cast 'breach' - do they work? They have to go in the 'quick item' slots, but the don't show up and so I can't use 'em. Is it a bug or what?
Second: How in blazes do I kill the demi-lich? Even with everyone protected from death spell, and going in invisible, I still finish up with most of the team obliterated. Advice would be welcome!

 

You have to right click the wand and select "Abilities" so that you can pick whether or not you want Breach or Pierce Magic. It casts 5 of each. Once you choose which spell you want than it should show up.
For the demi lich you should summon lots of monsters or animals to avoid imprisonment.Than just hit him with everything you have. Use mages for summoning and any fighters (etc.) for attack.
Make sure your fighters are hasted.

Sounds like a bug, I never knew of the different abilities - just threw it in the quick slot and blasted away.

You need at least +4 weapons for the demi-lich and protection from death isn't the key, he uses no such spells. Cast spell immunity with protection from abjuration or use a lone enraged berserker (like Korgan). Don't enter the room with people who don't have either, they'll just get imprisoned. Only way to get them out is by using a freedom scroll or possibly a wish (never tried, it should work in pnp though).

Hmm a dragons breath on the demilich worked wonders. (just one killed it) With the robe of vecna, my mage cast it so quick that the demilich din't even stand a chance

 

i think you'll encounter a few demiliches in ToB... the way i did was.. send Sarevok in with Minsc to close combat it while Jaheira worked the Slings... my PC (a wild mage) stayed far behind with memorized Freedom spells (not sure if i picked them as one of my spells or bought them from Lazarus)... Edwin and Imoen meanwhile hacked away at the bugger's protections with Warding Whip and pierce Shield...

 

I just sent in a hasted, enraged Korgan There's only one demi-lich in ToB and he has no protections... If you don't mean Kangaxx, those pierce magics and breaches were wasted.

 

I just rushed him, everybody in my party had +4 weapons or better, killed him in less then 7 seconds , nobody got imprisoned.

 

Thanks for the advice, you guys! Finally killed the blighter - but I still lost Keldorn, sigh. Never mind, I have Mazzy now, and she's pretty good. I didn't hire Sarevok. Was that a mistake? I usually only use good/neutral/lawful/chaotic types.

a few demiliches in ToB? I think the only one is the one in watcher's keep.. am I mistaken? you encounter quite a few normal liches.. and I believe something else that 'imprisons' (I can't remember what though.. in SoA, a mage you release from the soul trap in the underdark imprisons.. anything else??)

 

Fjlotsdale, you can go back any time you want with a mage who has a freedom scroll (they are much cheaper than most spells) and free Keldorn. Just make sure you are in the same general area he was imprisoned when you cast, and he'll reappear. Talk to him to get him to rejoin.

 

Yes Cotman just the one demilich in ToB, and as for the other thing, you're probably thinking of elder orbs.
