[IMG] Who is this guy that comes and kills the PC and NPC if you get tangled with the Shadow Thieves?
Is there a way to kill him? He kills with just one blow.

It's impossible to kill him; he'll just appear and do about 2000 damage to the PC with an infinite-range weapon.

He is meant to stop the plot from messing up if you attack the shadow thieves prematurely.

If you really really really really really really want to try and kill him, I think that you can cast death ward to avoid his insta-kill weapon, and then use stat-draining weapons to get one of his ability scores into the negatives, thus killing him.

I've never tried that, but I think I read that it is at least possible.

I'll have to try that sometime- he's always got on my nerves for some reason. Almost got him once by peppering him with Magic Missiles, but he targeted my PC who didn't run away fast enough. Ah well.

You won't ever run fast enough. As said above, his weapon has seemingly infinite range, he spawns next to your pc anyway and has a fast attack rate.

What I want to know is, can you Ctrl Q him?

Actually, IIRC, he wields the KILLSW01 longsword. Casting Death Ward won't help since the sword basically deals 1000 points of every single damage type in the game (slashing, crushing, fire, cold, etc...). It gives the user a huge AC boost, Improved Haste, a THAC0 boost, and probably a bunch of other bonuses. :skeptic:

Plus, like Elminster, he can't actually be killed...you can try and CTRL Y him all you want, but he just won't die.

He was designed to ensure the continuity of the game. If you side with the Shadow Theives, then Bodhi won't let you join, and if you mess with the Aran, you'll have nowhere else to go to gain access to Spellhold. So if you're dumb enough to piss off the two people who can get you to Spellhold, then the game decides that your PC must be too stupid to continue living, and *poof* a insanely powerful thief pops in and cuts you down to size for your stupidity. :p

One of these days, I'll have to open up the KILLSW01 item in IEEP and see exactly what it does. :thumb: :rolling:

My info on death ward blocking his insta-kill ability is from Xyx's spell reference

    http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/SpellsReference/Main.htm

"This spell protects against the insta-kill powers of some NPCs that are not supposed to be killed (such as Arkanis Gath)."

I think that stat-draining weapons are the only way to kill him, because although he is immune to magic, elemental damage, and physical damage (which is why ctrl+y doesn't work), they never bothered to make him immune to stat draining, so he will apparently die if you can reduce his stats enough.

I've only heard this is the case though, I've never actually tried it.

Heh, I once tried to battle with Arkanis Gath.

Stoneskins and mirror images did the trick. That was some battle. It was in the Mae'var guildhouse when I got caught stealing from the bartender.

Ring of the Ram tossed Arkanis into another room, I quickly shut the door, since he'd already killed almost everyone in my party. *slam*

But I still remember with terror and awe what happened then. Another Arkanis Gath came from the shadows and the one from the other room walked through the wall! Death came in an instant...

So killing him would do you no good, since methinks he just spawns and spawns and spawns, just like those elven battleguards or whatever that spawn when you attack Elhan. You can kill them, but they just keep on spawning.

I believe there's an Arkanis (a dwarf) whom you meet in the Catacombs under Candlekeep in BG1. Then you can meet this one in the shadow thief area if you're being evil and stupid :D I'm also pretty sure that if you assign the Shadow Thieves to help you take on Bodhi, then a thief named Arkanis will also help you ... Is that correct or is my mind just playing tricks on me ...

•$ilvershield• you're right but the last two could be the same guy since they're both members of Shadow Thieves.

If you write Sinatra backwards and change "t" with a "k" what do you get? :p

You can kill him by way of stat-drain. One way of doing so is to use the Mindflayer form.

So what happens if you kill him?

Nothing. You can't pick up his sword and the item which prevents him from dying.

But after killing him you can then kill as many Shadow Thieves as you want. This can potentially ruin your game though.

1000 something of every type of damage in the game, -10 to AC, -50 to THAC0, improved haste, and magic resistance (can't remember the exact %) I believe. This weapon is overkill. Wield two of these and you got -24 CA (the maximum in the game), run insanely fast, completly shrug off any spell, and practically never miss a target.

Yes but what would be the point of that??? It would drastically ruin your game ...

Bodhi also insta kills you if you try to mess with her after you struck a deal. Nasty that.

The weapon isn't exactly foolproof. For some strange reason Firkraag seems resistant to it.

He can still fry your character regardless.
