Well I had this rather strange happening in Illithid City. ı had to open those doors that require 'a powerful mind or a godly strength' so I decided to turn into Slayer and by the same way dispatch a few annoying IMPROVED mindflayers before Slayer duration is over. I have a lot of mods BTW and the difficulty was insane.(fun mode) I buffed a little bit, stoneskin+mirrorimage, spirit armor(very useful against MindFlayers as it gives GOOD AC and a bonus to saves), gulped a BrinePotion, and 2 potion of genius, slipped some oil of speed, and then dear Sister Immy casted a most welcomed ImprovedHaste on me. I decided to use a protection from MagicEnergy (which I looted alot drom ever-annoying Kuo-Toas) as I knew from painful experience that ImprovedMindflayers use psionic attacks that does BRUTE damage(well Detonate easily does over 80+ damage on insane) and thought it may be usefull against. It also protects from Slayer Damage if it takes too long time.

OK, I turned into Slayer, and rushed into Mindflayers and Ulitharids(along with feeble but annoying UmberHulks) with -12AC, 25 STR DEX and INT, 8 attacks/per round, and good THAC0s and saves, along with brine potion still in my stomach. I easily dispatched MFs and Ulitharids (they hit me once only) and decide to go to next room while still so powerful. I went and battled more and was suprised that 'You begin to lose control' did not come, and suddenly I realized that I was 'Dispelling Magic' each hit and NO sweet cold damage that Slayer claws deal. To my suprise, I looked to my weapon slots and there was NO claws, only my fellow StaffofMagi yet I was still slayer. INTERESTING! I could change weapons as well so I dual-wielded Flail of the Ages and MonkeyPaw+3(which also gives one extra attack per round) and I was attacking 10/round, with 25STR, and all other benefits of the Slayer form. Needles to say poor oh so improved MindFlayers fell easily to my BhallChild wrath. :D

After the battle I waited a little, and I was still Slayer form, no warning, damage or death. I still couldnot cast spells (wouldn't it be really COOL if I could? OH so very tempting indeed!) but my SlayerChange was PERMANENT by the looks of it. I even rested and nope, I was still Slayer. This began to annoy me as I felt like I cheated, which infact I DID NOT. So finally I used SpecialAbility to return to normal form and be done with it.

My question is WHY? What is the cause? Mods? I do not think so? Something I did? (like pro from magicenergy perhaps?) Did it ever happen to you? Will it happen again? I am afraid to use Slayer(what if I got stuck with it?) now but am really curious abou the cause and posibilities involved...

PS: BTW Improved Elder Brain Fight ROCKS HARD! In insane it spawned 2 Adamantite Golems, 1 MagicGolem, 4 ALHOONS (which can be described as a MF lich and is HARD even with itself alone) plus lots of UmberHulks. OH and then ElderBrain did cast LowerResistance, GreaterMalison AND AbiDalzim'sHorridWilting, plus Chaos and RANGED maze too! Not to mention ALHOONS cast TONS of protection spells and AbiDalzihms as well. I was QUICKLY slain in my suprise and had to reload and workout some SERIOUS strategy.

In the end, Keldorn's DispelMagic (CAREFULLY AIMED!!!) saved the day as it dispelled Alhoons heavy protections, my buffed up to max warriors made short work of them in the narrow corridor where Golems was stuck near Brain(and they made powerful RANGED attacks as well so no big difference or cheese), whilst Immy's formidable :) Death spell slaughtered all annoying UmberHulks instantly. I released an Incendiary Fog on Elder Brain(MASSIVE damage as it is immobile) and then after 1 turn (it soaked so much damage it was NearDeath)skulltrap finished it. After that killing Golems was a pretty standart precodure. Thanks to the mod makers as this is a great battle which unfourtunately Minsc and Keldorn could not survive. OH well where was that spiffy RodofRessurection? :D :D :D

Sounds like a fun battle, and congrats on working out a strategy, heh. Anyway, as for your little Slayer predicament, it was the cause not of any mods you installed, not of any uber-haxy scripts without your knowledge, or of cheats, or of anything other than the simple spell, 'Dispel Magic'.

See, whenever a polymorphed form is hit with a dispel magic, the weapons and special abilities etc. are dispelled... but the actual form itself remains. So you can polymorph into an adamantite golem or somesuch and have a really low armour class in addition to all the resistances, etc. But considering it is a game bug, I would consider it akin to cheating, and advise you to Shapeshifts Natural Form, as you did.

That reminds me fo the time when I casted Shapechange in an online campaign (2-player), occasionally I would get "Infinite Shapechange" where I could shift in and out of forms infinitely, regardless of how long I rested. It would go away with time...

Really? I did NOT notice I was dispelled. Did MindFlayers do the trick? I don't know if they have a dispel ability though. Can I dispel nyself to do this trick? Then it will be pure cheating though. Thanks for the insight.

Yeh, probably. I find it rather strange that it worked with the Slayer, though, since the way the Slayer change works is it actually starts a dialogue, whereupon selecting the first information will cast the slayer change spell and set a global, basically "changed into slayer", which is where the game's more backbone scripts will launch the timer and do damage, etc. Although I know the slayer revert clears this global I wouldn't have imagined Dispel to do this. I'll have to experiment later, when I get around to installing BG2 again :F
