    The BG series

    BG was released in 1998.
It is an excelent game, it has millions of fans until now. The expansion pack (TotSC) made it even better.
BGII was released a few years later. It is
as good as BG1, with improved graphics, areas, characters, etc. Its expansion, ToB is a really good pack, with a lot of new things.
As I mentioned before, I think that BG1 gives a feeling that BGII does not. But my opinion is not important, I would like to hear (see) yours.
What do you think about the story, creatures, etc. ?

    [IMG] Well here's my results:
    1)Story - same good
    2)Characters, dialouge, interaction - BG2
    3)Creatures, items, and spells - BG2
4)Which is better - same good.

Again, I like to view BG and BG2 as different segments of a larger story. A story which I really like. So instead of saying I like this segment of the story better than this, I realize they both are fantastic and add to the overall story. So even though BG2 is better with characters, interactions, creatures, etc. what I like to call the "nostalgia factor" kicks in for BG1. It is the orginal so there is a certain amount of nostalgia that comes with it. (Not unlike a certain set of movies ;) ) The danger is, so many people get caught up in the nostalgia they make theirselves narrow-minded on additional segments of the story to come. Rather than get caught up in the nostalgia, just recognize it and agree that both are equally good parts of an overall fantastic story.

BG2 is a game of powerful demigods and megamages...
There is so many magics and super items, that you
won't use more than a quarter of them.

Bg1 was a story of a youngster desperately fighting
for survival with everything he or she (she in my
case) had. No Crom Fayers, No Gaxxes. You got +2
and you was happy like no one...
and the forrest and other outdoor was so
romantic, village of Xvarts there, small ruin
there, noober instead of neeber. The dream was
more real, because it was not as high-end-fantasy
    as Bg2.

Creatures, items, spells: Hmmm, hard one...I say bg1, cause i prefere fighting those monsters.
Which is better?: Very unsure, extremyl unsure, though I say bg1.

    Excellent idea for a poll,
    My results

    Story:BG1 no contest
    Interaction: BG2
    Items, Creatures etc: BG2
    Overall: BG2

IMHO BG1 had the best story and that is what kept it interesting, while BG2 was more about power, god like monsters and uber powerful items.

I rated BG2 ahead of BG1 for mainly selfish reasons - the cool spells and fighing dragons.

Defeating dragons is a lot more adventurous than a mere gibberling.

BG II is so much better than BG 1. There are more classes/kits, a lot more dialog, romances, DRAGONS, and the toolbar looks a lot better too. The list can go on and on, but I think it is obvious that BG II is a all around better game... :rolling:

    Great post!

In Abazigal's lair, you run into three guys who are all, like, level 1. "Tim, you can cast Magic Missile!" ... "Wait, I have to rest to memorize Magic Missile!"

Now think back to the first day that you played BG1. Think about after you saw Gorion killed by Sarevok and you encountered a pack of 6 gibberlings outside Candlekeep. Now that was a tough fight!

Looking at the three in Abazigal's Lair, I feel so nostalgic, I'm almost depressed. That was me when I first played BG2. . Ahhh, Good times, good times... :( :(

I couldn't get over the "kit" factor with BG2. And the first Baldur's Gate I wasn't I able to play over and over and over. In BG2 I think they overdid the items somewhat. You find so many good 2-handed swords early on, but if you were intrigued by the two-weapon style, this wouldn't help you at all.

For the story, I'd say it's evenly good, the basic story in BG1 is better, since it was alot more mysterious while in BG2 you already know mcuh of your own secrets, however BG2 ism uch more interacted then BG1, making the story more interesting. For the dialogue, I'd have to say BG2, there are so much more. For monsters, BG2 obiously wins, higher level=more stuff. AS for which is the better game, I'd say their quite even, mainly since BG1 feels more open.

    @ArrynMorgerim
    I agree absolutely.
"not as high-end-fantasy as BG2" -maybe the best expression for BG1. But anyway, BG2 is very good, simply not as good as its ancestor.
