I desperatly neep help! I'm playing "SoA". I've done almost everything before going to Brynnlaw, EXEPT for Watchers Keep, wich I've never finished. My party:
    Me, Thief lvl 15
    Keldorn, lvl 11
    Valygar, lvl 11
    Viconia, lvl 13
    Nalia, lvl 12
    Haer'Dalis, lvl 14

They all got the best equipment that is available so early in the game(before Silver Sword, Equalizer and so on). It's the fight vs 3 Cornugon (bleeding dmg!) and
1 Pit Fiend... doesn't sound difficult, I know, but the Pit Fiend does "Demonic Fear" and everyone but me and Viconia gets fear. I've got Resist Fear and Bless, but they get Fear anyway and when they are running wild, they get bleeding dmg and the Pit Fiend got like ATLEAST 5-6 attacks round. Can someone tell me a tactic that'll work?? Doesn't matter if 'tis a boring tactic (like killing dragons with cloudkill) or manly fight.

    PLEASE HELP ME!!

[IMG] No insult intended ... it was maybe a little ambitious to try WK at such low level. As for general orientation: You get 2.500.000 xp when starting a new ToB game ... and that amount of xp is recommended to be able to beat WK ... that roughly equals (recommended levels in brackets and bold italics):
    • Me, Thief lvl 15, (21+)
    • Keldorn, lvl 11, (16)
    • Valygar, lvl 11, (16)
    • Viconia, lvl 13, (19)
    • Nalia, lvl 12, (16+)
    • Haer'Dalis, lvl 14, (21+)
Mind that the levels you lack result in (a) lacking hitpoints, (b) relatively poor THACO, (c) undeveloped saving throws and (d) lack of spells for Viconia, Nalia and Haer'Dalis. Following the starting xp for ToB you chars roguely lack about 1.250.000 xp, that can easily explain why they bleed to death that easy.

My suggestion is to save and return later. ToB is a high-level-campaign.

Yeah I know that my chars are low lvl, but my friends can take it at low lvl. Anyway, there is an exit from Watchers Keep inside the keep at lvl...2 or 3, so I can always go out and return later.

    Thanks anyway!

[IMG] When your friends are telling you they beat WK with a party like yours then they are probably lying or cheating #. I hardly believe that. Nevermind, good fun :)

    # EDIT: ... or very skilled and very lucky. I have played WK a few times and I still don't really believe that WK is the right place for a low level party, averaging 1.100.000 xp per char.

I also think that if you are good/lucky enough to do some levels of the WK with a low XP party you will find yourself with such powerful weapons that you might ruin your later game experience in SoA

Another serious disantage of the low level of your fighters: They lack numbers of melee attacks. Both Keldorn and Valygar are blow lvl-13 when they would get their 3rd melee attack ... :(

However, when you still want to try the fight on agains all my doomsaying take the full load of supportive magic your parties clerics and mages can offer (a pity you don't have a cavaliers remove fear): Coordinated defence, protection from fear, bless, haste, improves haste, transfer strength, a bard song maybe, mass healing (make Viconia cast it under sanctuary and disable AI), use ghost or spirit armor (lvl-1 cleric spell that halves damage) for Valygar and so on ... you need to use your parties full potential to succeed.

    Uhm.
I did WK with a 5man party before I went to Brynnlaw. I mean, do *ALL* the Quests and you soup up some high XP. My Characters were, I dunno, lets say level 16-18 or so? None of them had high-level abilities yet, so the level might have been lower.
WK is a walk in the park, if you know what to do.

WK is a walk in the park? LoL, you must be damned good. There are alot of big baddies you fight in there eh?
(slight spoiler) Demons, dragons, illithids, and some crazy minotaur brothers.! Cough not to mention the infamous demogorgan. So i agree with Ragusa it's not an ideal place for lowlevels. I don't see no reason why you want to venture in there anyways. The only real motivation to complete WK is the powerful artifacts! Personally those priests outside smell fishie.!

WK is not for the faint of heart or for low levels. Soloing I did it down to level 4 before Spellhold, but that's an entirely different proposition, since the party then consists of one very lethal character.

I agree that the goodies there will also unbalance the remainder of SoA if used, but lots of the upgrade work is done by Caspar anyway, so can't get most of it till ToB in any event. So I would recommend leaving those goodies for later.

More fun when the battles are done at the appropriate level, since less cheesy tactics can be employed, which does give greater satisfaction in my book.

I also soloed WK before leaving for Spellhold. Yet, I didnt kill Demogorgon that time (I was True Neutral -- for the better balance I just used that Scroll :) )
