Killing Chromatic Demon in WK

Help! I have made a solo "ubercharacter" Assassin 25 dualled to Fighter currently level 22. I have tried so many times to kill the Chromatic Demon in Watcher's Keep Level 2 but my strategies aren't working. I end up hitting it down to about injured and then when I check again it says uninjured.

I tried various arrows and chopping (boy you need potions) and I dragged along Jan for a short spell. I can't, can't, can't do it

Any suggested strategies and or people to drag along to fight a single Chromatic Demon fight?

 

i guess you just have to get every powerful dude you have and gang bang him.I mean slash like nuts!!

 

The clues to killing the chromatic demon are the same as killing the other "bosses" in that level (cold kills fire, poison kills cold, etc). Reread the notes you found in the libraries.

 

Use weapons that do elemental damage depending on the Demon's form. i.e. use weapons that do Fire, Ice, Poison and Electrical damage. If he is in Ice form, use fire, if he is in Air form, use poison etc.

I assume that my characters (I used the full team of six) had weapons that did such damages anyway (poison darts (poison), Firetooth Crossbow (fire), Celestial Fury (electrical), Gesen Bow (electrical), Fire and Ice Arrows in another Bow, etc) and he went down in seconds to me, only taking on two of his forms in my battle (I think)! I used one 'tank' and 5 'missile range' characters, nicely spread out around the room to attack him from all sides. A fun but easy battle!

 

Thanks for your advice everyone. I am trying to do it solo, so if anyone who has done it alone, has any ideas. I have killed him before in a group, but...

 

I encountered the same problem while sp a monk. Since my monk didn't like weapons, I just had to give up and reload. Next time i brought a mage, and he went down easily. But I suppose you just have to bring lots of different magical weapons or arrows to take him out. Unless, of course, someone knows a better way?

 

It is possible to kill the chromatic demon simply by trapping it in the poison lab.

 

Do you actually get the experience for killing him that way, or just the quest xp for getting the key?

 

That's a good idea, trap the chromatic demon in the posion lab and open the door and fire a few poison arrows at him when he is near death. (When he's in his vulnerable to poison form.)

That way you'd be sure to get the experience.

 

I'm pretty sure that's what I did with a solo sorcerer. [had him follow me into the relevant chamber].

Can't recall the xp outcome though. Not that XP was ever a problem. Doing WK I in chapter 6 I think I maxed out before completing the SOA chapters.

 

You can also get a cleric to cast harm on him, then one or two tanks take him out the next round. If the cleric hits whit the spell that is

 

Switch the weapons your useing, so your taking advantage of the form he's in.

EG, when he becomes an Ice elemental, use fire weapons/ arrows.

whats a tank?

i been using elemental damge but it still won't take him past barely injured
he also didn't take any damage in the toxic chamber

do i hafta keep someone (or a wizard eye) in there with him

 

I find if you have a full party with a few hundred arrows of different types ie fire cold, a few wands, and spells, you generally can bring down the demon in a few minutes without taking a hit by having the demon chase around a character.

 

as a level 26 assasin you've probably taken use any item as HLA. This allows you to use wands. This way you can use fire wands, frost wands and lightning wands. The Only form you don't have wands for (for one round damage) is acid, and this can be done with acid arrows. Just use boots of speed to keep your distance and use the appropiate wands to take it down. Be sure not to use a element he is immune to (like fire against his fire form) as this will heal him! A tank doesn't refer to any specific person or object. A tank is any character - usually of the fighter, ranger or paladin variety - that is heavily armored, with a melee weapon that basically stands in the front of the party and absorbs the damage from the enemies while your weaker characters stand in the back using missile weapons and/or casting spells.

 

Just a tip!

When it is in the form of the monster that looks like a Shambling Mound, use lightning spells, lightning staff, Celestial Fury, Usuno's Blade, lightning wands! They do a whole lotta damage on him! You can rip off all it's HP when it is in that form in a jiffy!
