Hey there, I just have a minor problem in my SoA game.

Recently, when I visit Cromwell in the Dock Districts and ask him to "Rummage through my things" in order to determine if anything in my sack can be forged into a magical item, the game gives me Dialogue Options in red which makes no sense whatsoever and prevents Cromwell from investigating my inventory.

I did a little investigating, and found that most of the Dialogue that is offered in the encounter with Cromwell is actually NPC-Banter of Solaufein to various other party members.

Is there anyway I can fix this myself, manually or a patch to install over? I have uninstalled the Solaufein mod, but the dialogue between Cromwell and my PC is still broken.

Any help from knowledgeable Baldur's Gate II veterans is more than appreciated!

    Thanks.

    I don't suppose you've got a clean install you can copy+paste?

Well, let's start with a full modlist and the order you installed them in. Install order bugs are the most common, and frequently result in behaviour like this.

Hey, thanks, Felinoid. Do I have to uninstall and reinstall the entire game (again, I've had problems with mods before ;) ) or simply uninstall and reinstall the Mods?

If I did do a clean re-install of the entire BGII game + Mods, the order would probably go like this:

    1. Ease of Use.
    2. Dungeon-Be-Gone.
    3. Item Upgrade.
    4. Extra Druid Rings (one pro-timestop, one pro-pretrification.)
    5. Minsc true-Berserker kit.
    6. Extra Thief Stronghold Quests.
    7. Unfinished Business.
    8. Tactics.
    9. Ascension.

Does that seem right to you? Any help would be great appreciated.

Well, I've never used any of those mods (aside from EoU), so I don't know what might do what, but I can give you some general advice.

Non-WeiDU mods will generally require a clean install to purge unless you know exactly what they did and can reverse it. They should also be put first in any install order as they can potentially screw with other mods that are already there. WeiDU mods (like EoU), on the other hand, are a bit nicer and will typically not mess with other mods, so they should be installed close to the end. Past that, I'd say take a look at the Readmes for advice on placement. I've also heard things about needing to install Ascension last, so good job there.

That sort of error is caused when you install the Official Patch or a non-WeiDU mod over WeiDU mods, or install the patch or a mod with the game or a game editor running.

You need to reinstall the game and mods in the correct order.

ah, I had this problem as well (although with different characters). I reinstalled the entire game. But, you should do it as this web page tells you to. Do it precisely as these guys tell you to, and you should be fine.

Or just look at this thread: More Bugs...

Hey, thanks for all the help guys.

I actually figured out the problem, only to encounter a new problem. I un-installed the entire game, deleted the SoA folder, re-installed the game, and re-installed all the Mods. It worked, and Cromwell started speaking like his normal self again.

My game was going well until I began the "Renal Bloodscalp" quest. I proceeded to speak with Mae'Var and was hired to acquire the Lathander Statue for him. But after accomplishing my mission, I got the dialogue message "Mae'Var appears busy and cannot speak with you" when attempting to finish the quest and deliver the statue to MaeVar.

I then remembered to install the ToB 26498 patch to solve the problem, and lo and behold, Cromwell's dialogue was broken again after installing the patch!

Is there anyway to solve the "NPC appears Busy" dialogue bug without installing the patch, because it seems that it is the cause of all the dialogue problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Install the patches (ToB and Baldurdash) *before* any mods. It may be the problem of wacky dialog is from adding the patches after the mods.

Yes, it must be done before the mods. As the link I gave you previously said, you should install SoA, ToB, ToB Patch, Baldurdash fixpack, then only one un-WeiDU mod, then as many WeiDU mods as you want (although I don't suggest using too many, just incase).

Hey, thanks a lot guys, I've had to re-install BGII and ToB so many times in the past, and twice in one day today. But it's all good, the Mods are worth it.

Thanks for all of your help and clarification.
