Allure of Soloing

I never did understand the allure of soloing -- until trying it.

I decided on a female gnome cleric/thief (Alora's pic)-- mainly because I don't play clerics or thieves very well and had so much fun with Annah in PST. It's a blast. Just to make it more fun I'm using Annah's voice set -- Like a shadow I am.

The Copper Coronet and Slavers were a breeze. Lure enemy, run away, hide in shadow, backstab ... repeat. The beastmaster wasn't this easy with a full party. Sanctuaried c/t can find and remove traps. Walked into the initial room with the slaver captain sanctuaried, disarmed all the traps and started the lure and kill routine (the slaver captain took two backstabs). Holy Smite works wonders on a room of 8-10 slavers -- they even started killing each other off.

And the money. Wow. I had 24,000 gold after Irenicus' Dungeon, The Circus, and Freeing the Slaves. I haven't even done any pickpocketing or stealing ... yet. But Mercykiller Ring, here I come (along with other items).

I probably made a mistake, but I accepted the offer from the Shadow Thieves before even stepping out of the slums (already in chapter three).

 

Ah, another convert. It does make a lot of things easier, but you have to be especially careful of disabling spells. One failed save and suddenly you're getting hacked to pieces by the wimpiest creatures in the game. Your tactics change radically, and it can be quite fun. Party play can be fun as well, particularly with the dialogue, but soloing...oh so much fun in different ways.

Don't worry about accepting Aran's offer "too soon". You can just blow him off for months if you feel like it, and in the meantime you've got the Amulet of Power, which is quite helpful for avoiding level drain.

 

Oh, I love soloing with a character class I'm unfamiliar with and/or dont use very well. Only using that character forces you to try things out to see how they work. You should have seen me the first time I used Holy Smite. I was so exited!

 

You'll scream the first time you accidently use it on yourself.

I am soloing a Human Thief, Wushi Ninja, and right my character is level 5 and I just reached Beregost. I haven't even equipped any armor yet and I have yet to someone who will challenge me. Once I hit my first HLA, Use Any Item, I am going to dual my Wushi Ninja to a mage.

Hehe...but seriously, trust me...once you get a taste of solo play, you'll never play in a party again. Who needs wimpy party members to get in your way when you can lay all of Faerun to waste?!

Besides...you haven't really played Baldurs Gate 2 until you solo Improved Irenicus with a Wild Mage/Cleric...

 

Wasn't there a mod that Mazed the party members, in essence removing them, for the duration of combats? I might solo if I could do that.

yah thier is a mod, on easy to use mod. When you talk about soloing insane mode, improved mods, do you inpornt chars over and over agian so you start at a higher lvl? (becuase soloing after dueling over to a mage form kensie would really hurt while in insane mode.)

 

I cant say for certain, but I honestly dont think they do.
