I was watching something agout the Shaolin warriors who are touring Australia at the moment and saw a bit about what they do, so I thought that it would be pretty nice to have something like them in BGII.

If anyone know a lot about these guys please say so since I'm only going on an advertisement so I'm pronanly very wrong but, I noticed them using Samurai type weapons such as Katanas and the flail, So I'm guessing they would be a sort of Monk/Kensai combination with a mix of abilites in both areas.

I think they would get the Kensai staring AC advantage, also gaining a +1 every 2 levels until level 30.

Use Katanas, Flails, Wakazashis, Ninja-To's and the staff, with the ability to dual weild.

Regular saving throw bonuses vs spells, along with the immunity to diseases, poison, and movement affect spells, with the same movement modifiers as the monk.

+1 to hit and damage with weapons every 5 levels.

    Magic resistance same as monk.

    Stunning blow.

Lay on hands as per the usual monk ability.

Damage modifier with fists are the same.

Disadvatages the same as the monk and no quivering palm, missle weapons AC bonus or weapons immunity, and he can only become specialised in weapons (well hey he needs SOME balancing out.)

So basically I see the Shaolin as a watered down Kensai mixed with a watered down monk. But like I said I know almost nothing about them and I'm not sure if anyone thats not one of them knows anything about them either other then their motto "strength, courage and discipline" and also the fact that they seem to have NO sense of humor at all :)

Well, for starters, they ARE monks. Just do a web search on Shaolin Monastary or Shaolin Temple. I believe the Forgotten Realms monk is patterned after them.

I agree with sojourner, the monks are clearly modelled after Eastern monks (they're not exactly bald fat guys scribing in monasteries, now are they?). The most famous monks of all are the Shaolin, since the Shaolin temple is the birthplace of kung fu. Their immunitieis are clearly based off of the absurd levels of bodily control which budhist monks can attain, and the special attacks (stunning blow, etc) are based off of fabled martial arts moved, some real, some legends.

truthfully, I'd like to see a class that rather than involving kung-fu, or any stand up fighting, involves grappling, which is basically the most powerful form of fighting. It's the martial art (Ju-Jitsu), designed to take out Samurai, because you can't hurt them using Kung-Fu, (armor :) )

I take it he means one of the "submissive" martial arts, such as taichichuan, or judo. These arts involve turning an oppoenentsa stregnth against them by redirecting their force, normally resulting in tripping or otherwise knocking down your opponent. The difficulty with this sort of character class, is that it would need an entirely different damage and to hit model from normal characters. Also, new animations would be needed. If you really want to play this type of character, then you might want to check out the new bioware xbox game, which I think is called jade empire. Personally I'd love to play it, but I won't buy an xbox for it. . .

Grapling = wrestling, but it involves defensive/offensive ground positions, (it's ground fighting), to hit your opponent, or avoid being hit. If you've ever seen UFC(Ultimate Fighting Championship), Hoyce Gracey(SP?) the 6/7 time champion uses Brazilian Ju-jitsu, he's one ofthe worst grapplers in his family
