I have been looking for a Bladesinger kit, but I can't find one that has a working link. So without being able to use a prefabricated kit for a Bladesinger I decided to use a Kensai/Mage. The only downside to this kit is that he cannot use armor, bracers, etc but what I loose in defense I gain on offense.

I am not sure how many of you are fimilar with the Bladesinger kit in the complete book of Elves, I would recommend this kit if it was avialable to anyone who enjoys playing a fighter/mage.

    Offense:
+1 attack and damage with chosen weapon
-1 with all other melee weapon even if proficient
Cannot receive additional bonus to hit and damage from specialization.
+1 Elf to hit with long and short swords
Does not gain +1 bonus with bows

    Defense:
Gains a bonus to AC = Lower of the two class levels divided by 2 (round down) + 1
Example: a 3/2 Bladesinger will have a +2 to their AC

Other: +2 to casting magic spell, this is because the Bladesinger is casting their spell with one hand and using their weapon to provide their AC bonus.

This kit from what I remember when I played AD&D can stack their kit AC bonus with single weapon specialization bonus. So at first level a Bladesinger with a Dex of 18 will have an AC of 6 from DEX - 1 from Bladesginer AC Bonus and -2 from Weapon Specialization for a total of 2 AC a level one, not bad if you want a mage with a good starting AC.

As for being a Bladesinger the following stats are required: Str and Con 13, Dex and Int 15. My character stats are not altered in any form or fashion. I continued to press the reroll button until the stats I had were enough to be a Bladesinger and I was lucky because it occured only a few rolls after I started. Below are the stats for my Kensai/Mage(Bladesinger)

    Str: 14
    Dex: 18
    Con: 14
    Int: 18
    Wis: 13
    Cha: 9

My character is LG and is all ready to out and adventure. The only thing I have left to do is adjust his kit to Kensai, etc...

What do you think of my character and idea. If you know or have the file for a Bladesinger kit, please don't be shy and share your mod.

Edited: To clarify the Bladesinger kit from the complete book of elves.

I've loved the Bladesinger ever since I got the CBoE, and I made an extensive search of kit mods a while ago but came up empty. It is on my list of things to do when I'm learning WeiDU though, but that'll probably be a while.

Bladesingers are elite elf fighter/mages. I really don't see how are you going to create a kit for it. You might be able to create items usuable only by elf fighter/mages, though (bladesingers are known for their exquisite armor and weapons).

That's true, you could make an item called the Bladesinger's Sword that is only usable by Elven F/Ms with the appropriate stats, and make it unremovable or cursed. You could then apply all the effects to the sword. But it's not the best solution.

An alternative solution would be to add a character to the game who recognizes an Elven F/M as a fellow Bladesinger, and you have the option of replying "Why yes I am!" and getting the Bladesinger kit applied, or answering "A what?" and going on your way.

Solution #3: Just make it an F/M kit and be done with it. Multi kits are possible AFAIK, and the only two races that can be F/Ms are Elves and Half-elves. Simply ignore that it's elf-only (maybe mention it in the readme and the download page), and hope that Gnomes won't be able to select it too because they already get a kit with their combo.

Solution #4: Create a Bladesinger NPC. That bypasses all the difficulties of applying it to a PC by simply not bothering. Myself, I've already decided on this solution, because not only does it prevent abuse, it also allows you to keep close to the Bladesinger code by scripting reactions in such situations that their code would require a specific action.

If I did create a kit for Bladesinger it may fall under the fighter kits and would have to be applied or alter through Shadowkeeper.

+1 to Hit and Damage at first level
    Cannot specialize in any weapon
Cannot learn any two handed weapons
    Monk's AC bonus

What do you think? If someone could create a kit with the info above for a fighter, that would basically be a Bladesinger if you kit a Fighter/Mage.

+1 to Damage is pretty much useless, since you can always put 18/** in Str and the ** determines various damage bonuses.
What's the point of a fighter kit, if they can't specialise. People won't choose this kit for exactly this reason.
You also probably mean two handed melee weapons.
Monk's AC Bonus is even worse. You are forcing a Fighter/Mage to have high Wisdom and to remove the armor (which is already of the most notable bladesinger characteristics).

"They often tattoo themselves with old runes and symbols and their armor and weapon are all of great antiquity and beautiful craftsmanship."

Does the word "stack" mean anything to you? ;)

I would suppose that the anti-specialization rule wouldn't apply to the Bladesginer's chosen weapon (probably set up like the Archer kit), but that brings in a new wrinkle. How do you determine what it is? Even if you were to say sword, there are still several types.
The monk's AC bonus doesn't require high WIS (the monk does, but not the bonus itself), but the second point is something to keep in mind. Rather than a bonus to the base AC, as the monk's is, it should be a bonus to AC in general, like the Swashbuckler or Kensai. It would follow a monk progression, though, which may be what Abdel was trying to get across.

Actually if you want to make a bladesinger kit, it doesn't need to be necessarily a fighter kit. The most appealing option would be a bard, but elves can't be bards. In fact, the Blade kit for the bards is basically a Bladesinger. Therefore, you might focus in creating the kit for a mage. Allow the mage bladesinger to put armor, shields and use melee weapons allowed to fighters and allow them to specialise. From the Lore of the Bladesingers book that you can find in IWD this comes up:

"Bladesingers are terrifying weapons experts and spellcasters. On Evermeet they are organized into small warrior lodges, each specializing in a different weapon."

So if they are using mage advancing in gaining proficeny points, this would ensure that the bladesinger only focus on one, maybe 2 weapons to attain specialized level.
The real challenge however would be the weak Hp's/level a mage gains. This might be fixed by adding an item that increase the HP's (not Con) with 20 or so.

IIRC, Bladesingers can NOT dual-weild. Is this correct?

If the bladesing wound not be created as a bard kit it might be fun to create it as a sorcerer kit. Using the same casting system as you can't dual- or multi class a sorcerer in BGII.

Personally I have never enjoyed bards much but the bladesinger looks intresting, mainly because I fancy elven lore. :)

But Bladesinger is strictly a Fighter/Mage kit.

There's the bladesinging fighting style, but that's different.

That's correct, anything beyond a single one-handed weapon interferes with the bladesong. No shields, no two-handed weapons (with very rare exceptions), and no dual-wielding.
No. Just f***ing no. It's bad enough that the sorcerer, a 3e class, exists in the game at all, but mutilating one of the best 2e kits out there to be like it? :toofar:

I don't think it's appropriate for BG2. It takes many years to learn the Bladesong, and there's no time where a Bhaalspawn would have learned it.

Well, I suppose Gorion could have called in some favors to get a tutor, but...yeah. Yet another reason why an NPC mod would be a better option.
