I started a solo run through BG2. This will be my very first solo as my others I ended up taking party members just because :p .

I just realized that rest until healed without a full group including a healer or two is your worste nightmare!! 25 days and 8 hours was my last rest time!! haha!! Suffice to say I reloaded and have begun using potions indescriminately(SP).

There are several ways for solo characters to heal quickly without using healing potions all the time.

One of the best is the Cloak of the Sewers (loot from the Rakshasa in the sewers in the Temple District). The troll form regenerates a couple of hp a second so one use is enough to heal most characters fully after a single use. Plus you get one use of the troll form per day, so unlike with healing potions you're not losing anything when you use it.

Was planning on getting it, but not until the story-line takes me there :) . Nonetheless it was a nifty surprise when I saw my rest time was 25 days haha.

Otherwise you can allways say to Imoen:

"Yeah I know, it took me 3 years to get to Spellhold, but this time I've got a really good explanation"

Another good alternative is the Ring Of Regeneration, as well as the Ring Of Gaxx if I remember correctly.

Disable the "rest until healed" option and use your healing special abilities. If you have an active DUHM special ability before resting you could regenerate more HP.

... but 1,000 years more or less don't really matter for a god anyway.

Haha I did disable rest until healed, I do like resting for 8 hours vs. 25 days to get my skills back :) .

Unfortunately I'm neutral evil so I'm don't have the healing DUHM's, I do use laroch's Drain and Vamp Touch as much as I am able. I have been debating actually seeing how "long a game" I can run, but I think that might end up making quests pass before I can finish, ie: Firkragg has a 2 week timer :p .

What class are you playing? The following mainly relates to mage types, but a lot can be used with fighters and thieves as well.

    >temples, you'll have plenty of cash since you don't need to equip your party. Note that this is pretty expensive (around $50 for cure light wounds and $750 for heal)
    >potions - again you'll have heaps cos you won't need to share them with other party members (just make sure you have unlimited potion stacking from EoU)
    >regenerating items - haste will double your regen rate [Wink]
    >Larloc's Minor drain - you can cast it on chests/containers etc for some health.
    >rod of resurrection - simulacrum yourself with Valiant's helm and get him to use it on you (as not to waste the charges)
    >Tenser's transformation doubles your hitpoints on casting
    >probably an only-if-your-really-desperate-thing: get your resistance to a certain type of damage up (say fire) and then fireball on yourself.

Yes this does work if your fire resistance goes over 100% (I know this is what you meant, just clarifying). Unfortunately it's not as useful as it could be because resistances are capped at 127%.

Can't wear helms, unfortunately, since I'm a kensai gonna dual into a mage (which was the original class I was supposed to solo about 2 years ago :p ).

I'm also not planning on doing anything cheap or meta-gaming, so stuff like increasing my fire res and fireballing myself is a big no-no. I'll only use haste and tesner's when I'm fighting. I love potions right now. A lot :) .

Starting off solo with a fighter-type character is incredibly difficult. But as you are soloing, you should soon get a LOT of money and a LOT of potions. At leastI did with my kensai. But when you dual over to a mage again, and especially when you regain your abilities, you will be nearly invulnerable. My kensai/mage lvl 13/18 managed to completely slaughter everyone he met to the point where it just got boring.

Are you kidding? There is no arguing that a level 1 fighter in Candlekeep is far more powerful than a level 1 mage.

In Irenicus Dungeon a fighter would get some mileage from Bhaalspawn abilities. A solo mage would certainly have to rest more than a solo fighter.

Regarding kits, Berserkers are just incredible because of their immunities since many effects that result in a game over (maze for instance) are ignored when raging. Wizard Slayers can disable enemy mages like no one. What about Kensais?

Kensais are good at higher levels (with these shiny bonus to hit AC and damage and even more so when they are dualled to mage which allow them to use mirror image and stoneskin for some much needed protection or druid for barkskin and ironskin), IMO at lower levels they just suck.

Especially if you don't have an oversized batch of potions and an entire party (or at the very least Jaheira) to watch your Kensai's back buffing and healing him/her all the time.

Mages have the advantage of starting off with globe, stoneskin, mirror image and fireballs. Pretty much buff up, run around the dungeon to collect every enemy, then fireball them all dead.

It's a dirty little trick, but it works and it's not using anything outside the rules of the game.
