[IMG] IMO the best choice you can make is the pure straight and unkitted thief. Sure the kits all have some neat features but no kit beats the pure thief in terms of versatility. And of course, a halfling thief is always best.

Yheck this link, there you should find about everything about thieves you might like to know:

Of course, when you are looking for sheer backstabbing power go for a mc fighter-thief (halfling is really very good) or a dc kensai-thief. However, why not try a pure thief for a change and be surprised by what he can do ... with one puny * ;)

peronally I think that a Figther duaked at lvl 12 to a thief is the best...

Also an assasin dualed at lvl 15 to fighter is good to....

  4. Wee, a guy from denmark :)

    Well I can't complain with the T/M

She rocked and it's not the last time I try it.

  5. Ive gotta agree with Ragusa on this one. :)
Pure straight theives are the *best* for beginner theif users... the kits are more for those who have played one before and want abit of veriaty.

    But...
I have to personally advise the Multi-class Mage/Theif. Either Elven or Half-elven...or if your into short theives;) you could try a gnome Illusionist/theif.
I especially have to recommend this class for solos as they can make optimum use of abilities:
    • the Mage half... Memorize scrolls, get spell lvl*1000 XP per scroll(you should know that...) which with higher lvl spells can gain you *lots* of XP quickly.
    • The theif half...Trap detecting(saves a mages life(and spell book) often... in conjunction with detecting.. there is the XP you get for deactivating the trap... which when high lvl theif can be 2000+ XP(and there are lots of traps)
    • Lock-picking, need this skill for two reasons... 1. saves your lvl2 spell slots for needed defensive/offensive spells. 2. Again the XP iirc it caps out at 945 or so XP per lock disarmed. Can be the little bit you need to level up to get that necassary spell slot for another spell for a tough fight...
So as you see, a Mage/Theif is a strong solo class, and is *very* handy in a party.

Thx for the help. I wanna light some spots up, so i dont confuse any1, im NOT a newb. It's not because i have anything against newbs or something like that. Hmm I already have a mage, as I mentioned, but i have another idea. Have u guys read a powergamers dream? Well whatabout a Assassian dualing in the 20s to a fighter? Could it be fun, good? For backstapping of course... Hej alle fra Danmark

  7. If you do Dual an assassin to fighter in the '20's as you put it, dont dual later than lvl 21 as they dont get much in the way of bonuses after that...

Silly me.. I forgot to welcome you to the boards. Welcome

(Umm, could you please read the Rules/Faq... your typing is a little difficult to read...)

If you want to dual from thief to fighter that late I strongly recommend to wait for "use any item" ability, it's definitely worth it. So that would be around lvl-23 or 24 :)

If you Dual at around level 25, you can get one ability, get the Use Any Item. Then dual.
And Hindo's Doom is a very good Katana, i cant remember where you get it. :p

One of the best thieves is the halfling fighter-thief (multiclass).

Otherwise, I would probably dual-class the thief at level 7 to a mage or fighter depending on the rest of the party. If I dual class to a mage, I would choose the swashbuckler kit for the AC bonus. If I dual to a fighter, I may be a pure thief for the backstab damage (while keeping all the thief skill points).

    slight spoilers ahead:
    .
    .
    .
Hindo's Doom is indeed a good Katana, it can be upgraded by Cespenar with Hindo's hand (to be found somewhere in Abazigal's lair). Hindo's Doom itself is in one of the lower levels of Watcher's Keep on a dead dragon ;)

What Kull said. I just took a halfling fighter/thief through BG1/TotSC/BG2/ToB and he was awesome. Made the entire game so much easier (I never was into backstabbing before this).

I actually play a halfling mc kensai-thief through BG-2 SoA, doing the first quests at the moment. She actually has a neat THACO already, only the lack of armor hurts, especially in combination with the restriction to melee (basically, I just rediscovered how interesting it can be to use throwing daggers).

However, one pickpocket in adventurer's mart at least reduced my consumptun of healing potions significantly.

Best type of theif is a Kensai/Theif, incredibly powerfull, use all items for good armour, use scrolls ect. The way I did it for AC: 18dex: 6AC, + Kensai Bonus 4AC, Two **s in single weapon style 2AC, Hell bonus: -1AC, THEN armour!! Which I wont even go into cause I dont remember. So anyway with no armour on my base is -1

    Great huh :D

  16. -1 AC? Great? Only in PnP.
I have a solo Mage/Thief in I's dungeon with spells can get -4AC and he still gets hit... And he doesnt have armor on.(I have a bad habit of liking to cast spells in combat:))

On topic.. I have to say that I think Mage/Theives are the best imo.

Yeah, i did exactly the same to get the armour class for my f/t with a kensai/mage, and with ghost armour -10 AC or so. Then Stoneskin, Blur, Mirror Image ect.

  18. I have two favorites:mage/thief,kensai/thief.

Kensai/thief:Loses inaility to wear armor after you get *use any item* wih the thief.Shuld dual katanas, long swords and axes.(imagine CF and the blade of roses + wirlwind attack + assasination!!!Deadly!!!

Mage/thief:good magick.*CAN* use swords with use any item andinvisibility helps with backstabing!!!

Both are relly good. They are my two fav classes!!!

    Paddy!!!

If these answers don't satisfy you go to the SoA forum, the exact same topic is there too :)
