Well, if you're going to pick up both of those weapons, you're going by for much more than a "visit". In fact, you're going to have to do everything except the final floor of WK to get Spectral Brand. Plus, isn't Usuno's Blade the one you purchase in Saradush? (Or is that another katana I'm thinking of?)

I imagine you know what we're talking about when we say the Twisted Rune - I'm thinking you just didn't know what it was called. There's some hefty experience points there as well, with there being a lich, beholder, vampire and high level mage in there. Not to mention it's probably worth the trip just to get the Staff of the Magi.

As far as lich hunting goes, yeah at 22,000 XP per lich, it helps. Unfortunately I know of only 5 in Athkatla. There's the aforementioned Twisted Rune lich, the one in the Crooked Crane, the one in the Unseeing Eye quest, the other one in the Bridge District south of the Twisted Rune, and of course the mighty demi-lich, Kangaxx (sp? - never could spell that correctly). Anyway, that's only 138,000 XP divided 6 ways, so unless you're close to leveling someone up, it's not likely to make a big difference. I suppose if Edwin is one of your NPCs there's a sixth lich in the catacombs beneath the Graveyard district, which would take you up to an even 160,000 XP.

I am a little curious as to why you are so hell-bent on getting your characters even higher for the final battle with Irenicus. Improved Irenicus is pretty tough, but there's nothing about vanilla Irenicus that you can't take on with character levels in the low 20s. Now granted, I obviously advise doing everything you can do in SoA before fighting Irenicus, as there's no going back once you defeat him, but as far as going through the majority of WK, it really isn't necessary.

I did the first two levels of watchers keep, the second was getting difficult cos my characters just cant take the hits. My sorc now has 2.7 mil xp.

I have bad memories of facing irenicus the first time and getting soundly whipped time and time again by his timestops even after I had cast mine. At the time my characters were pretty powerful, but damaging was difficult and killing him nearly impossible. I refer to the first irenicus battle, the second is much easier.

I don't think Irenicus is effected by timestops, though I could be wrong. o.o

I remember that feeling. First time I played the game I was a complete nub and ended up having to fight Irenicus with like.. level 16-18 characters. I had to reload like 8 times and ended up with only my main PC left. Yeah. So I did EVERYTHING the 2nd time and realised how horribly easy that was. I didn't even use buffs. I just dispelled him and beat his ass. Too easy. So yeah, you should be fine as is.

    Post-Underdark.

All that experience makes sure I'm overpowered for the rest of the game and can revel in unbridled destruction as much as I want!

It sucks waiting and waiting for the levels to pile up before you can actually do all the things you want to.

Yeah he is affected by it. Very few enemies arent, as far as I know, Demogorgon and balthazar are the only two that arent.

I didnt have such low level characters (as I said I had timestop) and I wouldnt describe myself as a noob, but the first time I fought him I found him incredibly difficult, even more so than kangaxx the lich. When I faced him again, and then again last night (both new games) I found him much easier actually. still difficult, but nothing a good timestop and a few adhw wouldnt fix.

The best person to have in the final Irenicus fight is Keldorn (or a PC Inquisitor). He can't get anything in the way of protections up, and then it's just stompin' time. I love melee heavy parties, and when Keldorn is with the party, the screen shot of Irenicus' death is usually him surrounded by 4 or 5 people in my party, all whackin' him.

Final Irenicus battle in unmodded game is a pushover:I was actually dissapointed, the battle is simple, and easy, you should only learn to:remove his buffs each time he puts them, so use Breach or Dispel Magics a lot, and then simply kick him in the head till he was dead, har har! :p

Improved Irenicus battle from tactics mod, on the other hand, is entirely different, long, unique, fiery, challenging, and fun even if you lose! :thumb:

    I agree with Silverstar...

Aldeth mate, I'm not sure if you've had a go of the Improved Irenicus battle from the Tactics mod, but if you've played that, I'm sure you'd appreciate 2-3 high level Sorcerers a lot more than Keldorn and other melee heavy types. :) I know I would certainly be glad of more characters to let loose with those Time Stops and Improved Alacrities...

The temple sewers in athkatla in SoA? You must have some uber difficulty mods installed. I've never been of a high level enough to cast timestop while still walking around the sewers, but maybe I'll do that and see what happens.

Mhm, that is a sweet way to win :D I remember when my PC was inqusitor, Irenicus was a walk in the park. When I got to him, I had four or five dispell magics, and there was no way he could stand up to that :) Those True sights were a great help too. That's when I learned to appreciate a power of dispell magic. Now, I'll admit that inqusitor's dispell is much more powerful than anything else, but I'm not complaining :)

I dunno how many time's I've posted this on these boards, and I know its not completely relevant to the topic at hand. BUT...I don't want people indulging in a false sense of security so....

Spell Immunity Abjuration OWNS Dispel Magic...

On that we agree, but just how many times is it used in vanilla game? I'm pretty sure it can be counted on fingers of one hands. Carpenter's.
