How to hit Demogorgon with an archer ?

Hi all. Haven't played this great game for a while.

Anywayz I was always confused about how ranged weapons work in this game. And I never used the archer since my reputation is always low.

For now I just want to ask how would an archer hit a monster like Demogorgon or a Demi-lich. Which ranged weapon can achieve that ? Generally how to determine what a ranged weapon can hit ?

Gesen's Bow for Shortbows.

Firetooth +4/+5 from that chick who sells stuff on top of Watcher's Keep.

Slings are easy...Erinne's Sling, Everard's Sling etc etc.

Long bows I am not sure. There are plenty of +4 longbows, but the ammo required to be able to hit the enemies stops at +3 enchantment I think. No idea.

 

I remember that there were sling bullets +4, my character used them. So, there might be +4 arrows and bolts.

 

No +4 Arrows or Bolts without using mods.

 

I'm not 100% sure but I think the to hit thing is based solely on the bows enchantment and that the arrows are just there to do more dammage.

So If a monster needs +2 weapons to hit you can do it with a +3 bow and regular arrows, but not with a regular bow and +3 arrows.

I think it is the other way arround. Only the ammo determines what can be hit. With a +3 sling and normal ammo, I could not touch a Stone Golem but any sling will with +2 ammo.

+4 sling ammo can be found in Watchers' Keep.
Sunstone ammo seems fine against Kangaxx - My dual Fighter/Cleric got him using the Dragonbane +3 sling and this ammo as he has no +4 melee weapons.

 

It is the AMMO that bypasses immunities, not weapon, as it is the ammo (bullet, arrow, bolt) which makes contact to the target, that simple. So never use enchanted arrows on ordinary enemies, save them for big guys.

 

hmm, after my brief testing. It seems the only bow/crossbow that can hit as a +4/+5 is the FireTooth+4/+5.

I didn't test all the special arrows and bolts like arrows of dispelling etc, but it seems they are mostly less than +4.

So I guess firetooth is the way to go.

 

SO, can Firetooth hit Demogorgon with a NORMAL arrow?

All those special arrows like Arrows of Dispelling, Arrows of Piercing (they give +4 to THAC0 but enchantment wise they belong to this category), Arrows of Biting, Ice, Fire, Detonation etc etc are all +2 only!

They cannot hurt lichs, demilichs, golems etc...except for enchanted arrows such as those from Tansheron's Bow +3 or Gesen's Bow +4 etc etc.

You're better off choosing slings or crossbows if you want to be hurting the tougher enemies.

And no, the normal arrow/bolt/bullet will NOT hurt Demogorgon, just the bonus magical damage from the crossbow.

 

Also, I don't think that Everard's Sling works either, as it fires +2 bolts. Gesen should work fine though, provided you do not equip it with actual arrows and fire the magical ones only.

 

Everard's one works...... It was +5 but doesn't do +5 damage

 

What about Heartseeker using the Called Shot item ability? Never used it myself yet, cos I keep forgetting to in favour of using two-handed swords...

 

Weapons only give a bonus to your THAC0, not to the Enchantment of the actual ammunition you use.

Hence, it is irrelevant what weapon you use, only what kind of ammunition you use with it.
