You shouldn't be able to set traps when enemies are around, how on earth did you get to set them before abazigal or balthazar for that matter and the ravagar?

Abazigal and Balthazar can be "trapped". First of all, you do not see them before the fight starts, so you still have time to set your traps to places, where they will be going after the battle begins. At Balthazar there are the smaller rooms, and in Abazigal's lair there are plenty of free space to set those cheesy traps.

    BigB--

You can't lay traps if you're in the line of sight of an enemy. Walking up to Draconis, Balthazar, or whomever, you can lay traps and lead the bad guys to them. Amelissan, obviously, reappears in exactly the same spot after recharging. You beat the kiddies in the outer sections, lay your traps, and then click on the doohickey that makes her reappear.

You can't do anything in Demogorgon's room until he appears, so no traplaying, ditto for Sendai. Bad guys too big, room too small.

Yeah, fine, call it cheese if you like. But what exactly do you expect a solo thief to do? Backstab? Amelissan, Hive mothers, demons galore? Wouldn't stand a chance. Asking a solo thief not to use traps is like asking a solo sorcerer not to use spells.

i didn't have a hard time beating melissan the second time around after i discovered there was no 'time limit' per se to the fight. the first time, i thought it was imperative that i shut down the energy bridges as quickly as possible to prevent amelyssan from powering up too much. i still made it through with only one casualty though, anomen who got himself turned into stone and shattered by a beholder.

the key thing i learned the second time was that you DON'T have to rush the fight. also, considering the fact that melissan constantly summons new monsters whenever she feels like it, ignore her minions (what's a demon to a 37th level ftr anyway?) and concentrate all attacks on her. my party was fighter heavy (me, my bro, keldorn, anomen plus aerie and imo) so it was an effective strat.

after she turns tail, stop, regain your bearings, heal up then fight the energy bridge guardians. before shutting down the energy bridge, save the game (you can't rest), summon allies and cast protective/enhancement magics. your fighters might also want to activate their toughness feats. after you're ready to go have someone cut off melissan's energy supply and beat on her until she breaks off combat again.

repeat until the solar shows up and declares you a god.

i guess your decision after the first time you finish the game can give you a few insights into your own character. not a great big insight, but an insight nonetheless.
after i beat melissan the first time, aerie told me in no uncertain terms that she would prefer it if i decided to remain with her and our baby. i guess the 'proper' thing to do at this point would have been to accept my mortal responsibilities and live out the rest of my life with her. for some reason, however, i just could not turn down the lure of immortal power. while i was terribly conflicted about it i abandoned aerie and the baby to become a god. maybe cernd went through the same thing, don't you think? perhaps he and my character should talk. anyway, i hope my girlfriend never reads this though... i never told her i abandoned aerie and the kid, just that i became a god. she might make connections and all and stick me in the doghouse.

Well, You can rest, Just get a few mages and have them cast wish. I had two, Myself and Imoen cast wish at the same time, even with lowish wisdom, (12) you will get the wish "Make it so my whole party had rested, healed and rememorized their spells" 1 or two times out of three.

The cool thing about this as well is that you rememorize the wish spells you just used :) Wishes galore!

I found the fight bloody difficult. Using my level 40 assasin i had used all the way through bg2, I finally killed her with him wielding the holy avenger (no cheat there) and mayby the sword you get of the dragon bhaal spawn, can't remember his name. I also had Valygar with hindo's doom +5 attacking her with greater whirlwind every time, but it was still fecking hard.

    Hindo's Doom +5?

  8. The fight was difficult? I didn't think so,
in fact the fight was actually a pushover compared to the fight I had with Sarevok or
Sendai. Though the slayer shadows were a pain in the heiney. Didn't know that the fallen solar could disintegrate people. She was more like busy with my DUAL-WIELDED Crom Faeyr and that super katana thingie. MUAHAHAHA!

Sendai? I got through Sendai first time, but with Melissan I eventually had to resort to saving after every time I beat her and replayin guntil I got lucky.

  10. Well, Sendai's battle was though for me
    because:-

    1. Highest diff. setting
    2. My level wasn't so great
    3. I insisted on going with her one on one,
with my PC, a fighter-mage, while my
buddies kept the her gang at bay

The battle was more epic this way.

Oh, and by the way, the original tougher Demogorgon, a real bi**h.
