You know how in wrestling, whenever one of the wrestlers enter the arena, music starts to play. And it is different music for each wrestler.

I was thinking, now what if the different characters in the BG world had their own theme music.

I personaly think Minsc would work with "Let's Get Retarded", but that is just me.

    Heh, nice thread!

I could see Edwin walking in on the imperial march theme from Star wars. He's got the robes right an' all that, just not the colour :D

For Haer 'Dalis I would take 'Just dropped in (to see what condition my condition was in)' by kenny Rogers.

Jaheira could have 'We are the world' Serves the treehugger right! ;)

    EDIT: ooh, sunshine gem

AHHHHHHH! NO NOT THAT!!! seriously when I was in primary school I was forced so much to listen to it in the music classes that it's permanently engraved in my head and YOU just HAD to remind me didn't you? I'll have nightmares of treehuggers and Druids for weeks it will take me months to recover from the freshly opened wounds.

    Btw yes I am joking.

Highway to Hell for the party's theme song.

Seek and Destroy for Sarevok perhaps.

I don't know but I think Kittie - In Winter would work well for Viconia considering her outlook on the world when you first meet her.

Dope - Debonaire would be amusing for the foul mouthed Korgan, hard tune to go with his hard attitude. Plus lyrics work. Kinda.

Erm. Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes for the NPC considering he takes out atleast 2% of Faerun's population during the course of his adventure. "I'm going to fight em off."? I guess, maybe I'm just partial to that song.

Personally, I think 'Unforgiven' would be more appropriate.

Like the HTH idea for the party tho :D

@Casey: Sorry if I messily ripped open any traumas that you've had lingering for years. Maybe it's time you confronted them? Said "Hello, mister Jackson, that song of yours is really absolute and utter ****e?" Exorcise the demons!!

PS, yes I'm joking too ;) You gotta admit that for someone who rambles on about balance the whole time, this song is just right :D

Well being as I am a huge fan of many japanese console roleplaying-games, it seems only natural to me that each character should have his own music.

In BG2, Arie has her romance music. And that's a damn good one I might add. As it fits an angel like her (imagine a mystical floating cities filled with winged elves when you hear the song, tender and beautiful and peaceful beings) just so perfectly. I imagine a big part of the immersion in BG2 still today is because of the memories I got from playing her romance the first time out.

Another thing is the Imoen Romance mod. Although there's a certain very hideous song in there, most of it is just on par with some very good JCRPG themes.

And no offense, but any traditional western music (don't know the ones you've suggested but I've got my reasons to doubt) will only ruin the game. It needs epic fantasy, and not just any epic fantasy, but the sort that's never been heard before. Once you connect a meaning / memory to a song, you can't use the song anywhere else again unless to invoke that same meaning / memory. And in the case of something that in itself is too important, like a character in a roleplaying-game, 2 important meanings get mixed, which only destroys the immersion and starts to annoy you. At least in my case.

Btw, has anyone made a mod to BG2 that changes the musics in it?

No, and there won't be one made since it's illegal.

... and if someone made those songs themselves?

Or more importantly, how hard is it to change the music that will be played on a given scene? With right tools I know it can be as simple as point and click but I doubt you can get those with BG2.

Because I've got some separate fantasy themes that I've bought myself. Hardly anything illegal in using them on my own now is there? ;)

Not that difficult, once you know the filenames.

Technically, that is against copyright law, but it is highly doubtful that you'll be prosecuted for it.

 I thínk you didn't really get the point of the topic.

What we were discussing was an entrace theme like the ones those (rather ridiculous but highly amusing) wrestlers have. So this is an 'entrace theme'. It is not in any way a proposition to change BGII's music in the least. Imagine, if you will, a theoretical arena where one after the other, NPC's would walk in. They would need a theme to make an entrance. Hence: Entrance theme.

And no offense, but the music mentioned above is highly connected to the NPC's mentioned. It is also highly famous.

I think sarevok would probably enter on "fire" by arthur brown, except it will go "I want to be the God of Hellfire....."
Also if you and sarevok did a tag team you could use "brothers in arms" by dire straights.

Aerie - 'She's so high' by Tal Bachman, seems appropriate.

Anomen - 'Eye of the Tiger'. The excessive machismo of this tune fits Anomen's SoA personality quite well.

Cernd - 'If a tree falls in the forest' by Bruce Cockburn.

Edwin - 'She blinded me with science' Edwin's the fantasy world equivalent of a science geek with an evil bent anyway.

HaerDalis' - 'Lovers in a dangerous time' Sort of fits in with his poetic bent, his fling with Aerie, and his fascination with chaos.

    Imoen - I'm stuck here.

Jaheira - 'Maneater' by Hall and Oates. What can I say?

Jan - 'Parents just don't understand' At a loss for anything better, all I could come up with was a rap tune that was consistent with Jan's proclivity for family tales and silliness in general. I also have to wonder how grown up he is to begin with.

Keldorn - I don't remember the name of it, but its that really dramatic opera-type theme that gets played for things like the commercial for Mel Gibson's version of Hamlet and the like.

Korgan - "Dirty Deeds" by AC/DC.

Mazzy - "Desire" by U2. U2's tunes tend to be the serious and stoic kind. The song contains plenty of references to 'her', and desire for certain things (paladinhood) does resonate with Mazzy.

Minsc - "Fishheads" Much like the song, Minsc is pretty dumb. And well, he's got something in his head besides brains.

Nalia - "We are the world" Not to make light of what motivated this song to begin with, but I can't think of anything more dead on for her.

Sarevok - "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC. He was carving one for himself in BG1 as it was.

Valygar - "Blue Monday" by Orgy. Not so much a matter of lyrics, but the general melancholy of the song seems the right theme for Valygar's dour personality.

Viconia - "Unforgiven" by Metallica. Fits in with her getting outcasted by the drow, and her bad experiences with surfacers.

For Immy in SoA I'd say:
    "Find my Baby" by Moby..
I know the song sucks but we do have to find her, don't we?

Sarevok - "Kinslayer" by Nightwish...the lyrics and the music may not match him so well, but the name's dead on.
Haer'Dalis - "Over the Hills and Far Away" by Nightwish...seems appropriate, especially if you're both romancing Aerie...ALSO I think Haer'Dalis could pull off "The Bard's Song" by Blind Guardian.
Nalia - "If I had a Million Dollars" by BNL, I can't think of anything better.
Imoen - "Objects in the Rear View Mirror" by Meatloaf...I think it suits her.
Viconia - "She is My Sin" (again) by Nightwish...nothing suits her better...
Cernd - "In the Jungle" by Elton John (or whoever sang it before EJ, whatever)...just for the title, the song itself isn't really appropriate for Cernd, but whatever.
Jaheira - "I Hate Everything About You (but, why do I still love you?)"....'Nuff said

And that's all I got for today...

Anomen-"You're so Vain" (Madonna? Not sure the artist)
Jan-"It's the End of the World" (REM)
Keldorn-"Living on a Prayer" (Bon Jovi)
Viconia-"It's Raining Men" (Don't Remember) I think that one just suits her.
    Nalia-"Uptown Girl" (Billy Joel)
    Aerie-"Like a Virgin" (Madonna)

Sorry, but for Viconia, I'd have to say "Sweet Dreams", the Marylin Manson version. Yes, Manson is a freak, but this song just seems to fit her personality. (And it's a really good song.)
