    Since I plan on re-installing the game in case I can't get the transition prob fixed, I'd like to ask which mods are so good that they are a must-have for SoA and ToB....if you reply, please list the compatibilities...also with Darkest Day since I'll probably install this again as well...unless someone advises me not to ;)

    Baldusdash is for fix the whole game. You must to install like this: SoA, ToB, Patch pf ToB, Baldusdash. After this you can install the most of the mods of BG2.

    No, WeiDU is just a program that provides a uniform way to make and distribute mods. Everything you'll need will be in the mod download; just follow the instructions in the Readme file (as with any other program) and you'll be fine. :)
