Are there any weapons that you never use?

The same here. I do not use spears, even Ixil for Jaheira (always Belm+Spectral Brand, instead),
and I never use longswords, thinking they are plain crap. The TOB longsword is crap indeed: My Evil Kensai has 23 or 24 strength after all these bonuses on her own, and dropping it to 22 is not something I'd like to do.

Though Blackrazor is one of the best weapons in the game... *sigh*

Spears are great, its just you have to wait a while to get a good one. They are wasted on druids as they will rarely hit anything...

I know the Spear of Withering is a good one, but as I get the Dragon Breath halberd around the same time, I prefer the second option.

The same goes for Ixil/Ravager. Though Ixil is fantastic against Melissan, I give it that.

How did you get 23 to strength with your kensi?

Bolg: you start either with BG1 and get 19 strength, or use Half-Orc. Thus, your strength is 19 in Irenicus' Dungeon.

Then in Hell you increase it by three points (Sarevok, evil choice, one point of strength at once and two more when you use the tear),

    so you get 22.
Deck of Many things grants you one more point, and
Machine of Lum the mad - one more.

    This way, you have 24.

Yup, it's called Foebane, and can be upgraded with Ffar's Scabbard (IIRC). It's pretty much the only Bastard Sword worth using, though. I find the casting of Larloch's Minor Drain on hit is useful for tanking sorts.

Generally, Spears remain unused by my party - although I've toyed with the idea of playing a druid, just to have an excuse to try them out. Most other weapon types get used at some point, though.

Except darts, which I almost forgot about entirely. Just goes to show how much I pay attention to them! :shake:

Looks like I have used all types of weapons. I normally sell all throwing axes, darts etc except the returning ones. I have almost never used crossbows, but it has happened.

@Bolg: Off topic, but IIRC, the bonuses to strength you get from Lum's Machine, Hell Trials etc stack with strength boosting items. So if you did all that which Kulyok said, and just wear a Girdle of Frost Giant Strength or Fire Giant Strength, you'd get 25 easy!

Faraaz, the problem is that originally it was not meant to be, and Baldurdash fixes that.

So, if you have Baldurdash, 25 str is not possible, as far as I know. :(

I'm not a big fan of Bastard Swords, unless I have 2 paladins or a fighter/thief in the party to use that holy avenger in Watchers Keep.

I rarely use daggers or throwing daggers, either. My Mages either stay back with darts or a sling, or throw spells. I figure that since you throw 3 darts/round, you have a better chance of at least hitting, since mages don't tend to be very good at hitting things.

I also hate clubs -- Jaheira is better served with a cool scimitar or a spear, and the cool club that sometimes explodes into a fireball damages EVERYONE.

I think that spells are the best.

Out of the weapons the club has almost no use, it gets beat out by the morning star.

Apart from 2 hand swords and range weapons, I tend to use single handed weapons only. Early on, my tanks want to keep their shields. Later, dual weapon use seems to be the best answer.

In BG1, where you cannot shift your shield in pause mode, more use of 2 hand weapons makes sense.

I also avoid darts and thrown weapons until returning items become available. The throwing axe in particular has a low damage to weight ratio.

My Fighter/mage usualy uses Blackblade of disaster vs big bosses (imp haste, black blade, critical hit ha... brrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze).

On anything else: whatever comes in his hands first, after hell Blackrazor for ToB.

Black blade of disaster is very underrated ;)
