All classes are viable, even for solo on insane, you've all just made me go and make a party of some of the "weakest" characters :) I'm gonna use druids, bards ang rangers mainly ...

Totemic druid? generally, I think all druids pretty much suck. Also, I would think a wizardslayer would have some magic abilities, understanding mages and all, instead of magic resistance; which you can build up by items anyway. Bards? too girly for my likings...

In my experience wizard slayer is a very very powerfull class.

I can imagine a bards song being usefull if you have 5 archers in your party. They don't move so they will get affected by the song, but the question remains... Does an archer need an extra to hit bonus????

@jbigdaddy there is of course a difference between a character in a party and the character playing solo. I don't mean to say you hadn't thought of it but it is definately worth pointing out. I think I would have a lot of trouble with a character who has little hps and little fighting power like a mage. Even worse if you start in BG1 can you imagine defeating Sarevok with a solo mage?

I tried playing with a bard and here is my opinion of it: Pick pocket skill is basically useless I only used it to get ribald's ring. His spells are useless too. I had a sorcerer in my party too, and wasn't casting any level 6 or lower spells anymore by the time my sorcerer could do level 10. Not with my bard at least. The one exception is tenser's transformation. and finally his fighting skills were usefull but I would have prefered a straight fighter over him. The lore is the one thing I loved about the bard and that was out of pure laziness ;) I really fell in love with his lore! Yet I think that a bard would be a rather excellent character for a solo.

    I don't see what's wrong with druids??

Why would you refuse using fighters? There is nothing more relaxing than having a tank in front recieving all the jabs :) in the meantime you can cast spells safely from behind.

Bards and Druids for sure. Bard isn't a real warrior and Druid's are very sad weak nature loving [insert insulting Druid word here]!!!

The Avenger is the only druid that is playable for me, his mage spells make up for the poor druid spell selection at lower levels.

As for Bards, I think they're good, just overlooked, usually for the F/M/T.

  7. I realize that I'll get plenty of flames from this, especially the powergamers, but:

Bards and Druids are nice classes. They are fun, challenging to play (but not overtly hard), and versatile. The Kensai, in retrospect, is a cheap, overpowered class that sadly has the ability to dual into a mage.

    normal druid and jester.

I like the totemic druid because the sprit animals are better than shapeshifting abilitys.

Weakest in 'bashing': Bards ('cept Blade)
    Weakest in spellpower: vanilla Fighter
    Weakest in thieving: vanilla Fighter

But there is no worst class. Vanilla Fighter makes up for spell/thieving deficiencies by being a damn good hacker.

[IMG] How can you guys say monks. They are one of the most powerful players anyone can have. Sure they are weak at the start but the make this up when they start getting really powerful! :)

By the way the druid has to be the most usless character. You can get a cleric for healing spells and, unless you think shapeshifting is cool, most of the what you can shapeshift to sucks.

Solo with the worst kit, ie. ive did a solo with a Wizardslayer, Avenger and Shapeshifter... they all pull through in the end.

Worst kit? Nah doesnt exist imho.

  17. I reckon the Totometic Druid sucks. Summon spirit animals? Bah....Normal Druids suck a lot too.

Shapeshifter becomes a bit pointless in TOB, as you get to transform into elementals, which even makes the greater werewolf look like a sissy.

Also the beastmaster, whats the point, its just a really bad druid who can use a bow.

Being a out mage or even a specialist is pretty pointless aswell now with TOB. You might aswell dual a fighter at a low so you can use a weapon of your choice, if you don't like mage weapons, and if you do like mage weapons such as staff it wouldn't hurt putting all your weapon skill points in staff as fighter so later on you can still be a very powerful mage, who can use his weapon with the skill of a fighter.

    8) True-class thief. He doesn't sacrifice any of his skills: he is able to backstab, fight, set traps and fly arrows. If only he had the time to do all those things...
    7) True-class fighter. Odds are: you will fight better in melee combat (take a Battlerager or axe-wielding Cavalier) or you will fight better in ranged combat (take an Archer)
    6) Barbarian. Let me remind you that a tank's duty is managing to be hit as little as possible, maybe even fighting well in the meanwhile.
    5) Wild Mage. If you really love that "Load Game" button.
    4) Avenger. Instead of shapeshifting in poor losers like wolves and bears, you shapeshift into much more good-looking poor losers
    3) Blade. A character who can make many things: fight, tank, sing, steal and spellcast. And who is useless in all of them.
    2) Wizardslayer. If you can manage to hit a mage, it's probably easier to take him down on the spot than impeding his spellcasting
    1) Beastmaster. That is, trading decent weapons for fodder summoning.

Wizard slayer is IMO the best class if played right. (Using a certain "thief dual strategy")
The worst class is IMO all kinds of druids. They are just a weaker form of clerics.
(I know i wrote "blade" in a different topic, but i have changed that. They are kinda cool actually :p)
