We just visited his family, blablabla, confronted Sir William. I told Keldorn to return back home to sort things out, and i let him stay a couple of days with his family.
But he said something like: "this is my last quest, i will return home after that" (quest = rescuing imoen off course)
But after the conversation, i wasn't really sure whether he would stay for good or not, after i've rescued Imoen.
So my question is: will Keldorn stay forever or did i make a mistake ? (another option was: having Sir William killed and Lady Maria incarcerated)

*sorry for crappy english, can't be arsed to bother, being belgian and all ^^*

If you allowed him to stay and he was able to reunite with his wife, you can later on force him to stay in the party.

Ok, thanks for for clearing that out. ;)
Quite cruel though, going to trough Underdark, Ust Natha, ..., thinking you can move back home afterwards, and then, being forced to stay, to never see your wife again.

This RP consideration is why I never include Keldorn in my party. He is a great NPC, one of the best, but I cannot abide taking this man away from his family. The other NPC's do not seem to "have a life," as it were, and have nothing better to do than follow me around the Sword Coast :)

Bingo on that one... Evil NPC's I can bear to drag around but Cernd and Keldorn has just too much going on within their lives to be "disturbed."

Of course, if you finish SoA quick enough, you never actually need to worry about that -or never visit the government district with him. ;)

I ended up killing Keldorn whilst kicking some mind flayer butt in the Underdark ... didn't like me turning Slayer on his ass. Personally, I find Keldorn hard to keep in the party so like, yeah ... and he isn't that amazing of a fighter anyway.

You're absolutely correct that he isn't a great fighter. In terms of his fighting abilities, you certainly could make a ranger, fighter, barbarian or paladin that is better than him. Heck, there are several NPCs (Korgan, Minsc and Valygar spring immediately to mind) that meet or exceed his fighting ability. However, that's not the point of bringing along an Inquisitor. It's his special abilities that make him shine. His special ability of Dispel Magic is more powerful than anyone else in the game can cast, and it pretty much gets rid of everything a mage can protect himself with.

Plus, who can weild Carsomryr +5 better than Keldorn?!?
And besides, with Girdle of Ogre Fire Giant Strength and Gauntlets of Dexterity equipped, he can be a lean mean killing machine!!

Having Keldorn in your group makes the game so much easier. Especially when he gets to the higher levels. He gets 6 Dispell Magics, when usually he only needs one. After you get Carsonomyr and he recieves the %50 Magic Resitance, he's ustoppable. If the rest of your group is under a spell like stun, panic or something he most likely won't be and it will take one Dispell Magic until you have contol over everyone.

As an Inquisitor, he's immune to Charm and Hold spells naturally, which is a BIG help until you get a bit further in the game and pick up some defences against those spells. Plus, he doesn't need Lilarcor or Charm Protection helmets, because he's immune anyway and you can give those items to others, and in a snap, Keldorn can dispel them.

Add Carsomyr to the mix and Keldorn is a tough fighter with awesome special abilities. I just don't like taking him along because (1) he has a wife and kids, whereas the rest of the party rarely has any family, and (2) he and Viconia don't get along.

I think Kel should have known better than to get married, because as a paladin, he would be fighting evil everywhere, whether or not I was dragging him around the Sword Coast. Besides, at the end of ToB, Kel basically becomes a demi-god for Tyr, which makes his family proud.

On a side note, Kel supposedly falls to giants. I personally don't think any group of giants could kill Keldorn as I had him at the end of ToB, so I think he was actually murdered by one of his inferiors who was simpathetic with the fallen paladins.

That's the reason why he has trouble - he loves his wife and his church, but the church is the more demanding of the two. Part of what I enjoy so much about this game is that virtually every character in it has so many flaws and tragedies; Keldorn is drawn into the conflict by his very nature, despite his love for his wife and family. Even as he goes around Amn and Tethyr butt-kicking for goodness, he's got to be thinking about his family, wondering if he'll ever see them again.

My favourite part of the whole game is just before you face Irenicus and the dialogues with your party members - you can give Keldorn the opportunity to return to his family, but he (and every other good NPC... especially Minsc) will stick by you because he knows your path is important, even though it may cost him everything he holds dear.

I usualy have Kel in my party, simply because he can wield Carsomyr. Other than that, he is useless; korgan is a much better fighter (dual wielding axes)
