I just had an idea for a challenge that might be really fun to roleplay, based loosely on the character of Tim the Wizard from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Play a Sorcerer, and only use fire-based spells. By my count, 5 spell levels have fire-damage spells, so you probably won't exactly be hurting for damage.

    TOB Spoiler

I would also permit the use of Improved Alacrity once achieved, as that would simulate the rapid casting he displays in the movie.

Preferably this is a solo quest, but If it proves too hard, it would be acceptable to take several non-descript fighters along--limit magic item use for them.

Finally, I would also permit use of spell triggers/sequencers.

If you have any other ideas for allowable spells, or other restrictions/suggestions feel free to add them.

This might or might not be possible, but it could be a lot of fun.

Actually with the Uber-staff, many magic resistant enemies aren't impossible.

As for Firkraag, that's what your sling is for.;)

[IMG] Yeah but you gotta get the "uber-staff" first, fair and square :p. And slingin' Firkraag? That's insane. Even with boots of speed and cheese, run and fire a shot and run some more. Good grief. Like I said, torture.

One of my friends beat Firkraag by hiding in one of the little alcoves that he couldn't fit in. Then with his archer he turned him into a big red pinchusion :) Slinging would wake the same way

Personally, I think that this challenge is definitely do-able, and would take it up myself if I hadn't just become engaged in TDD (75 new kits!).

In response to your opinion that it is too hard:

    1. It is almost unheard of for a solo character to play without using some form of "cheese", whether it be attacking blue enemies, run, run, shoot, fog of war to lure half a party away, or other things. We're not talking fake-talk, but many tactics still take advantage of the engine.

    2. SPOILER I beat Shangalar and Co. with a solo sorcerer at about level 10. You need precisely two items to do it: A protection from magic scroll, and a wand of cloudkill. Cheesy? Sure, but not exploitative.

    3. At no point in the original challenge did I stipulate that the game must be completed in its entirety. It is perfectly acceptable to skip areas and quests that are too difficult. Ask Tjeknafir and Kailene Johanne(sorry about spelling) whether they killed everything they found or knew of. The other thing that could be possibly be justified in this challenge from a role-play perspective is the one-time, and I stress one-time use of the killsword (Holy Hand Grenade, anyone?)

Playing a magic user with restrictions on his spellbook can't possibly be more difficult than playing a 966666 fighter, using no magic items, or playing without ever resorting to cheese.

You DO know that Tim from MP Holy Graal is an ENCHANTER. Enchanters can't use fireballs. But I'm just a kobolt, right?

This is a case of imperfect translation from one medium to another. I realize that he calls himself an enchanter. However, he can be clearly seen throwing fire all over the mountain. There is clearly a conflict between what he says and what he does (in the world of BG.) Regardless of his actual lines, I thought it more true to the character to make him use spells such as fireball.
