I've always used 5 or 6 person parties, but I want a break from that so i can hit some really high levels. How will this party function?

    1. Aasimar Sorcerer(x) st 10 dex 14 con 12 int 14 wis 10 cha 20
    2. Human Morninglord of Lathlander(x)/Figher(1) st 16 dex 10 con 16 int 8 wis 18 cha 8
    3. Drow Rouge(3)/Ranger(3)/Fighter(4)/Wizard(x) st 14 dex 18 con 16 int 16 wis 8 con 6

I agree with Arianyr; give one level of Paladin to your Sorcerer, as it will really help with saves (and HP), give you access to any weapon you want, and let you wear the caster's armor near the end of the game. Two levels might even be worth it, for the immunity to fear. Plus, that means your Paladin will be able to use some healing scrolls (as will your ranger) to help out the beleagured cleric from having to heal all the time.

Do you need two levels of Paladin to read scrolls? I've never tried doing that with any of my paladin's.

You could probably push the Sorc's STR, INT, and WIS down by two each to let you max CON.

No, you only need the one; the second level of Paladin is to make him immune to fear.

Not just the Paladin, but anyone who snuggles up close to him as well.

The ones snuggling with the paladin aren't immune to fear, just resistant... but, yes, its helpful.

The third character isn't going to be able to hit very effective caster levels in normal mode...which isn't a problem if you plan on playing through HOF mode as well with this party.

If not...may I recommend the Bard? Makes a good backup arcane caster, healer, and the songs rock in IWD2 :D .

L2 Paladin will make your Sorc immune to fear, which is quite useful. You could also decrease his Dex and increase his Con instead, his AC is going to pathetic anyway.

L2 Fighter gives your Morninglord two free feats.

How about Rouge[2]/Ranger[1]/Fighter[2] for your Drow. You dont want him to be too weak a spellcaster do you.

i think he (she?) took fighter[4] for weapon focus+specialisation, and to avoid xp penalties, the ranger and rogue would have to be 3

Yes, I wanted the drow to be duel wielding, be able to get weapon spec, be a functional rogue, and have enough spell resitance and dexterity to avoid the fireballs and flamestrikes that my other two charaters will be dishing out. My tanks in the past have always been fighter/barbs or fighter/pals, so I wanted to try something different. And then have some spell casting ability for later in the game when melee isn't that important.

Drop the ranger levels. Your Drow has enough of a Dex that you can invest your fighter feats in dual-weilding.

True, but you'll get level-up feats to do a lot of that... even 3 levels of ranger is quite a bit for just the dual-weilding, and you can get away with it cleaner. Heck, if you really want to spend the extra levels, I'd suggest putting them into fighter and rogue; the extra skill points will help, and you'll get another feat for level 6 fighter.

I've decided to try a Rogue(2), Ranger(1) Fighter(2) Wizard(x) for the Drow. The weapon spec isn't probably worth it compared to getting to higher spell levels quicker. If I find I him to be more melee focused, I can add more Ranger and Figher levels. I'm hoping my Morninglord in heavy armor and lots of Animate Dead will be enough tank for this party.

Question...would I be better off with a Fighter/Barb in this party to go along with Cleric/Sorcerer? I think the Drow will be fun to play, but might not be that powerful.

Btw, the other characters I debated putting in the 3rd slot were a Human Battleguard of Tempus(x)/Fighter(4) or a Deep Gnome Monk(x) or a Human Ranger(1)/Rogue(1)/Druid(x).

the drow will be primarily a caster, but with the right buffing he might make a good tank as well, but id keep it at rogue[2] ranger[1] fighter[1] mage[x] but id pick a specialist mage then.

the sorcerer could take 2 or so levels of paladin, as could the cleric, if you he's gonna be the tank. also remember this: lathanderites rock. you'll probably want him as a spellcaster later on so you *might* want to consider adding another tank...

The cleric started with one level of fighter, and I'm going to give him a second level later on, after he gets Animate Dead. I do plan on making extensive use of his fire spells once he gets to those levels. And I'm going to try to keep the sorcerer pure for a while, since he's the party leader and it's annoying to have to switch to someone else to get your rewards.

The Cleric is a human. So he wont get any XP penalty.
