[IMG] i have a cleric (lathander) with wisdom of 27. i can cast anything beautifully except for overtly offensive spells (those in red). i'm wanting to use my instant death spell (can't remember what it is). the thing doesn't seem to work though. whenever i try to cast a spell that is offensive, i just get the little sword point when moving over the enemy. the spell pointer never shows. anyone have any ideas?

Some spells are "touch" spells, such as Harm and the Inflict spells. There are also some arcane spells that work this way (Melf's Minute Meteors.)

such spells are not cast directly on the target!

Instead, you cast the spell. This should cause your weapon icon to change. (A glowing red hand for Inflict spells, etc.) You then attack the intended target.

[IMG] touch spell is not directly inflict in icewind.. you must literally touch the target when the spell is done.

Yes, the spells like Inflict Moderate Wounds, Slay Living, and Destruction, all are cast on the caster and the caster has to physically go up to the target, succesfully hit the target, thus inflicting the amount of damage specified by the spell discription.
