[IMG] Is it just me, or does anyone else think they Completely and Utterly Didn't make any of the races COmpletley equal..?

Most of them really don't have a point. If you go human you get the most advantages. There's really Very Little point to Most of the races, other than a few points here, or a few points there..

I think they made the game Heavely Unbalanced.. If anyone has some sort of Further insight that I, and my Sleep Deprived Self haven't obtained yet.. Please, Help fix my swirling head.. :p

i agree, theres only a couple of good races, deep gnome, drow and human (both sub-races). all the others are completely pointless...(no offence to people bigger than me who like other races) :D

It depends on if you want to powergame or not. Hard to beat a Half-Orc Fighter or Barbarian. You can drop Int to 1 and Charisma to 1 and have 20 Str, 18 Dex, 18 Con, and 16 Wis (for saves). That is worthless?

Regular elves make great mages and sorcerers due to the fact that they can get 20 Dex at the start and use bows without having to waste points on them. Thats a +5 to hit right from the start, makes them much stronger without having to waste magic early on and gives them a 15 AC at start.

Dwarves are not as as useful but most of the races can easily be used to advantage, especially if you plan to multiclass.

Speakin about dwarves i think that they make at least equally effective tanks to Half-Orcs.To be more specific dwarves get
+2 to Saving Throws vs. Spells and Spell-like effects.
This is truly remarkable when you think about it. Essentially, it's Lightning Reflexes, Iron Will and Great Fortitude in one! I guess, in a way, you get 3 extra feats at first level with Shield Dwarves. This is fairly powerful considering tank types really need will and reflex saves.
Another +2 to Saving Throws against poison. I'll admit, this is really useless, and with a constitution score of 20 and the best fortitude saves in the game, it's not likely that you will be poisoned ever. However, the Half-Orc doesn't have this bonus, so..
    c) +1 to damage and attack rolls against orcs and goblinoids (bugbears included). At least in the beginning of Heart of Fury, he will be equally as strong as the Half-Orc would have been
    d) +4 AC vs. Giants

Although a Half-Orc Fighter(4)/Barbarian(x) is still extremely effective,it doesn't quite stack up to the benefits that you receive from the Shield Dwarf. First off, you can build a Half-Orc in the same way as a Shield Dwarf, but you get 20 Strength/18 Constitution instead of 18Strength/20 Constitution. The main difference here is that the Half-Orc will get +2 to damage and +1 to attack roles while the Shield-Dwarf will receive an extra 30 hit points by level 30.I think most of you would choose the hit points. With respect to HoF mode, those 30 hitpoints can be mean life and death (waiting out for Mass Heal to be cast for instance) and the extra will saves can prevent the character from charm, domination, fear, hopelessness, etc. (let's not mention the bonus to reflex and fortitude saves too).
Thus in my opinion the Shield Dwarves make the best possible tanks in the game

There's nothing like game balance in nature. Nothing has to be equal. Being realistic is more important for a game than being balanced IMO. I hate out-of-the-blue hindrances to powerful races, classes or kits for example. As for IWD2, that's pretty good - you'll have humans and a few other race members like normally in fantasy words.

I think all races are in the end pretty equal. At first, I thought also, Humans seem to be the best choice, because of the extra skills and feats they get.

Than I came too the conclusion, that all other races get the same extras as human, just those extras are already defined or "pre-chosen", whereas Humans are generalists.

    I personally think melee-oriented Half-Orc clerics rock.

Elves make good fighters, because they got pretty good will saves and are immune to sleep-magic, which really comes in handy in the first chapter against goblins and orcs.

    Dwarves and Drows, perfect paladins.

K, Drows are absolutley overpowered. But hey, they're Drows.

Half elves just plain SUCK in this game. What were they thinking when they implemented half elves? Is that really the official PnP statistics for a half elf race? They're TREMENDOUSLY underpowered and only viable in a role-playing case. The only advantage they have is +2 to enchantment magic and free favored class. They suck. At least all the other races get extra ability points.

I generally agree with Raistlin... The dwarves are better Fighters than Halforcs... But one Halforc Barbarian will be surely a great worth for you...
Who needs INT and CHA... That's Fighters after all! The party speaker will be the Rogue or Sorcerer/Wizard... You can either combine the Fighter with 16 WIS into Cleric... That's what I am currently doing... Making a Shield Dwarven Fighter/Battleguard of Tempus...

I think Half-Orcs and Dwarves are equal. All those disputes about them in reality turn only around one question:

If I think about a fighter-style character, do I get the picture of an Half-Orc giant or an axe-swinging dwarf ?

So, in my opinion, there is no doubt, that gold dwarves  were born to be paladins and Half-Orcs their fighter or barbarian assistance.

But you're free to disagree :D

I think that to say that half elves completely suck is a bit harsh. +2 to saves v enchantment spells is not bad - effectively it's a +2 to will saves. I believe half elves are immune to sleep effects which happen quite a bit in the early game. The only other non-role playing reason for choosing half elves as a race is to play a non-mage (or cleric in the case of a drow female) multiclass character. I have used the half elf for an interesting druid (x)/ barbarian (y)/ bard (y) character, where x is more than y. He didn't suck and was great fun to play.

[IMG] I find all the races useful and effective.

I think their should have been more races and that they were all equal.

I have used them all at some point - I love them

All those races are there because so many people asked (for example before Bg2 appeared): "Will I be able to play drow/duergar/mind flayer/green slime(...)?
They are there for better role playing experience.

BTW, I really like that character sounds. Especially that "Is this what you call -role playing-?" :D :D :D ;) :D :D :D ;)

[IMG] in the acual 3rd edition dnd all races are almost completely equal, but things were cut out to make IWD2. no contest that drow and deep gnomes are best for just about everything, but I still use teifling rogue and aasimar
    paladin x/fighter 4

half-elves excepted, of course, from ever being as good as anything else. Ever. :alien:

[IMG] Alot of you have Good points, Cept Gopher ;)
Just kidding.. It's a good point for PnP D&D, But for IWD2, Well..

I will have to say, The Drow and Deep Gnomes, when compared to say.. a half-elf.

They are a bit overpowered, Still. I'm glad to see that i wasn't the only one that saw things that way.

Does anyone think they will make an IWD3? Or will they make another Jump to a new part of Faerun?

[IMG] Hmm...that's been discussed several times. There will not be another Infinity Engine game. Ever. Period, and I seriously doubt Black Isle or Bioware will develop any more on the IWD/BG Saga's.

There were rumours of a Ps:T sequel (not starring TNO though) some time ago, but I think they canned it.

[IMG] Anyway, this is totally off topic. If you want to discuss it further, don't do it in this thread or forum.
