[IMG] If anybody ever looked at the box the system requrements For BG2 are a P2 233MHz With 32MB Ram and 650 MB HD Space.

My Friend Has A P3 733MHz 128MB Ram and a 18 GIG HD and the game runs shit...I mean shit...very choppy graphics and nothing explains it better than shit...On the other hand ive got a P 233 and a P2 300 The game runs very smooth on the P2 300 and Just the same as my Friend on My p 233... Other ppl with similar sys specs to my friends are also complaining about the game runnig poorly. I think it has something to do with all of them being hard asses and puttin all of the bars in the setup screen to the max 600Mhz and then the machine has trouble performing.

Actually, I had a fairly high powered system. I realized after extensive frustration that my environmental audio was selected and my sound card was sucking all of my memory. After I turned it off, my system has run fabulously. Just a suggestion.

The game doesn't require a high processor, because it mainly runs on the graphic card. You can play the game on a 233 in good quality if you have a good graphic card (at least 32MB, like a voodoo 3 or TNT2).

Maybe you've put the wrong settings on, cos a while back I had a PC with a pentium 200 with mmx (Which I found as the equivelent to 233mH) and yeah the game ran poorly, so I tampered with some of the options a little and it worked much better.

Ive now got a PC with 600 mh and it can run BGII no problem, but I found that ,as above, tampering with the options, can enhance the speed of the game. Another thing, foot steps may be turned on automatically, and dispite being only a minor addition to the game, does take up signifigant ram, so if possibly , i'd turn it off.

Also check some of the help functions and notepads that are on the cd, I found a few tactics for faster running in there.

    Phew, hope I helped :D.

[IMG] I was not aware of the fact that a 200mmx could equal a p233 Mh

In that case what does a p233mmx equal to cause that is what i got...i just thought that that did not matter much.

it depends if the program use the mmx technology. If it does you get some advantage, if not, I just think the numbers of mhz decides what goes faster

It's not only the MHz number .... of course the amount of RAM installed is a major factor. There are lots of different factor that influence game speed ...

It is hardware related in many other respects - so when I unplugged my old 2 GB seagate back-up HDD from my computer I noticed a major increase in system speed. It was further increased when I added a new 7.200 rpm HDD as my primary drive - banning my 4 GB HDD to back-up funtions ... Further I agree to silverblade, it also depends on your pal's graphics accelerator. And: Even when your CD drive is fast, a *full install* helps to improve game speed considerably.

Additionally it is possible to mess up the windows installation (neans: tons of useless crap programs auto-started and running in the background ...) ... and so on ...

BG-2 SoA runs *very* smooth on my 650 MHz/ 128 MB computer with a Riva TNT-2 32 MB graphics accelerator card.

To be honest, I'm not sure what specs my husband's and my computers have anymore because they are both Frankensteins that have been upgraded one piece at a time over the last few years. But I do know that my computer is a lot faster than his and has more RAM- which was the reason I was going to put a 3D accelerator card on my computer instead of his. At the last minute I ended up putting it on his instead, and let me tell you, I no longer play on my own PC. The graphics quality and speed of the game on his PC is so incredible that when I tried to go back to my own it was as if Baldur's Gate had turned into Space Invaders. So in our case, at least, it is definitely not speed or memory that makes the biggest difference.

Yes I know this was the least technically savvy post in the thread. I am suitably embarrassed.
