[IMG] I was fighting the Shadow Dragon with a 10/11 level party and had something funny help me kill it. I used 3 lower resistance and 3 doom, then I polymorphed it. Then, I had a squirrel that could fling my characters! It was hilarious!

No Way. I don't believe it.

This game has some crazy flaws.

The lower resistance spells seriously drop the difficulty of this game, a spell that doesn't even exist in pen and paper D&D, obviously created for BG2. They shouldn't have any of these types of spells in the game, hopefully NWN won't have anything of the sort.

[IMG] Interplay use the spells and monsters as a selling point (ie we have 200 more spells etc) so it would be very unlikely that they would want to remove spells.

Remove silly spells like those above and simply add more monsters, like ones that fly above the characters and rain down their breath weapon attack on a helpless party.

In due time. In due time.

I actually like these new spells. I find that they allow for some very interesting "mage duels".

For instance, in the Twisted Rune quest, I had Korgan taking out the beholder while my Bard took down the vampire and thief, and Edwin and Jan both exchanged spells with the lich -- Edwin would nail a pierce magic, Jan would hit a breach, then both would toss offensive spells while Viconia hit him with the flail of the ages.... then his contingencies lit in, and a few more pierces, breaches, etc would be required.

These are, to me, quite fun spells. They give a more in-depth feel... and without them, what would you do, exactly, against monsters with huge protections? Wait around while they all wore off? It gives you an option that doesn't involve running away and patiently waiting until Improved Mantle runs out...

Also, the AD&D2e rules allowed for researching new spells, and I don't think there would be many DMs who would have refused to allow these spells to be researched. They're basically very specialised, high level dispel magics. Instead of making an attempt to remove each enchantment, they just have a much better chance of removing specific ones.

    They're neat-o.

And what's wrong with a mage polymorphing a dragon into a squirrel? Elminster could probably do it, or even Blackstaff. Why not you? =)

I completely agree with jsil. Breach, lower resistance and others add more life to the game. Besides, NOTHING is as cheap as time stop!

Actually Lower Resistance does exist in pencil and paper D&D. It is either from the complete wizards handbook or the pages from the mages or some sorcebook like that. Breach and all those spells were made up for BG2, and I agree, those do add alot more depth to wizards, giving them alot more difficult choices on what to memorize. But, all I wanted to point out to Syl is that Lower Resistance is an actual P&P D&D spell and not something created for BG2.

There should always be a way to nullify protective magics and special abilities.

Man, can't you guys remember that chump Sarevok in BG1?? The developers must have been SADISTS to mix in a high level fighter with a tonne of hitpoint with magic resistance! And all you can do is summon monsters to slow him down while pelting him with missile weapons. :(

Imagine the same thing happening in BG2, there are tonnes more monsters higher level than you and they're all magic resistant have stonekin/whatever!

That's no fun, that's tedium. It'll be just like playing Diablo in Nightmare and Hell modes.

Inspired by my breathtaking duel with Kangaxx the Lich, I used my only scroll of Imprisonment on the Shadow Dragon just because I was curious to see if it worked. It did...all too well. All his treasure - including the scroll i needed - got imprisoned along with him.

In spell battle the three best spells (which you can only regularly access if you remove the XP Cap) are Time Stop, Spellstrike and Spell Trap.

    [IMG] memnoch,
I'm interested in finding out what items Kagnaxx gives you after you kill him. I'm about to fight him and would like to know.

The thing that's slightly annoying now is that you NEED a mage in BG2. In BG i could get by without one, but now i'm usuing 2, and they're necessary for getting down those pesky defense spells, grrrrrrrrrrr.

I beat kangaxx, and his only worthwhile item is the ring of gaxx.

  14. I've heard even luckier ones. I believe somewhere on the forums someone said he killed Firkaag with simply a distingrate. (now THAT sounds far-fetched). Still, Mr. Powerful-dragon-who-will-make-you-puny-manlings-cower-for-mercy being turned into a squirrel is pretty damned hilarious!

Nah, it wouldn't be that hard to disintigrate Filraag. Bust his spell protections, use greater malison, then maybe a spell trigger with 3 disintigrates in it?

OK. I just don't get people who solo the game. How insanely tedious that must be! You must have to micromanage your fights sooo much and always have exactly the correct items etc available. And I really don't understand how you would be able to take out dragons etc without a mage.

Taking out dragons is easy. Just hack and slash ;) Although I must admit I turned down the difficulty level for my solo. Micro manage? Solo character level up way faster and with a fighter class you rarely need to manage anything. Turn on the AI and watch the pieces fly. The only problem is mages (that's why I took a wizard slayer).
Currently I am running a 4 member party, but the reason I went mono was the speed challenge. there are only 2 boots of speed in the game, and more characters slow you down. How many items you need?? All you need are potions and wands of resurrection, and of course equipment.
