There's already a paladin leader (will have casting, isn't a particularly strong tank), a shield dwarf tank/torch/packmule of 18str/20con, a ranger/rogue (either human for sp&feats or drow for resistance & stats).

Remaining three will be casters. The pool is cleric (Ilmater or Lathander only), druid, wizard, sorcerer, bard (I'm sceptical here, but it's being praised all the time). So, from team performance perspective, what three casters would you people take (including or not Aasimar/Drow ECLs)?

Three casters? 2 Sorcerers and a mage :) Seeing how you already have a cleric, having three arcane casters really dishes out that magical damage ;)

I don't really like druids, and I've not tried a bard yet, so...

Sorcerer, Cleric, and a Bard 11/Sorcerer x multi.

You could multi the Cleric or Bard with Druid, but Bard / Sorcerer should work well.

I won't advise as to school for the cleric as I haven't played one yet. I took a druid and a bard for my party's healing needs.

Well, no, I have a pure pal, a ranger/rogue (lastly changed to ranger1/barb1/roguex) and a pure fighter. So I need one divine caster (well, I know you can do w/o one, but let's take it that I need one). I would preferably take one cleric, one arcane and one of the other arcane/divine class (or a bard if it's worth it). BTW, which cleric is generally better: Lathander or Ilmater?

I'm not taking that party into HoF, so I'd have bard 11/sorc7 at best :(

#1 How does it work? As they're both arcane-casting, does the sorc know more spells including bard's healing spells cast at normal sorc's rate and can he copy scrolls into spellbook?

#2 If the sorc takes one wizard level is he able to copy any scroll he grabs along the way?

#3 If the spec wiz takes one sorc level does he get access to opposite school?

Well... I still think I'd prefer single class casters and each of different class with preferably a cleric taken.

So... Cleric-druid-wizard, cleric-druid-sorc or cleric-wizard-sorc? Unless there's a good reason to go druid-wizard-sorcerer clericless (I don't count the casting pal as secondary cleric) or include a pure class bard in one place.

Bard 11 if you're going to take it. Sith is at level 11.

it really depends on how you *want* to play with this party...

you already have 3 tanks, so if you wanted to melee mostly, you could go with a cleric that has strong melee ability, go with a Bard for buff spells, and perhaps a druid for shapeshifting and AoE spells...

if you are looking for a more balanced party, I would choose a cleric, sorc/wiz, and sorc/wiz/bard/druid for the final position...

    sorc - get spells automatically
wiz - needs scrolls, but has more spells available
druid - some nature summons, limited healing
cleric - strong healing, different kits offer other different advantages
bard - buff spells, good missle support (sorry, not much experience with Bards personally)

if you are looking for heavy spellcasting ability, go with 2 sorcs and 1 wiz, and perhaps consider changing one of your 3 tanks into a cleric instead (clerics can often tank almost as well or as well as fighters) or if you are already set on the 3 non-casters, and want heavy spell firepower, go with cleric, sorc, wizard.

I think that a cleric is a must, especially in a large party... druid just doesnt have as much healing to go around to take the cleric's place, imho.

Bard I think is more suited for smaller parties, since he can assume different roles at different times... but, he can also be a dedicated party speaker, since his spellcasting relies on Cha (as does the sorc)

wizard is my personal favorite, but I know that most prefer the sorc over the wiz, but part of my bias is due to my personal experience with wizards prior to 3rd ed...

in summation, it depends on your style of play and/or what you have in mind for how this party is going to progress through the game, but I would suggest at least a dedicated cleric, and one of either a sorc or a wiz, and the 3rd caster is up to you, choose whatever you think will compliment your party and their style the best.

    Ranger 2/Druid X or Barbarian 2/Druid X

Dual wielding clubs (there are some nice ones), staff, or bow. That's my RPG coming out there. Use Weimer mode to enhance druid.

For a small party (4 or less), choose ghostwise. Larger, choose human or elf.

    Rogue 4/Bard 11/Rogue X
He sneaks, he drives, he scores!

    Paladin of Mystra 2/Sorcerer X
Who cares about going back to Pali! Get your two levels and go. Small party, choose Aasimar. Large party, human.

I also like Cleric 1 (the one that gets axe profs.) fighter 4/Cleric x. Human. Nice tank, solid cleric.

OFF TOPIC ALERT: I just finished my second game. Three characters--pali 2/sorcerer 18, Druid 20, Monk 17 (deep gnome). Those two punks at the end were a breeze. On hard.

Cleric will be Ilmater or Lathander. Then probably sorc and wiz... With a wiz there's no need to worry for the sorc's limitations, that's good. The Lathanderian gets the most useful druid's high damage spells while the Ilmaterian has several buffs including stoneskin that should make him a good frontliner. I only have one real dwarven tank and one pally who's mostly the talker and only later in game with his wisdom he'll get the casting and draw upon holy might probably twice with bonus included. The third gentleman is a dex-based (finesse) rogue(x)/barb(1)/ranger(1)/bard(1) heheh (with the interesting possibility of increasing the other classes without losing much, so again not a real tank.
