My illusionist exposed him. IIRC from other posts a paladin will also expose him.

If you return to Kuldahar and meet real Nathaniel, you can ask him about him in Dragon's Eye. The real Nathaniel then denies he was there. After that a new dialogue option appears with the fake Nathaniel. If you choose it (e.g. exposes him), he will attack you.

You need some very big INT, a class isn't enough. My 16 INT paladin didn't work, another paladin/wizard with 20 INT succeeded.

Kicking his arse is a different story. IIRC some of his magnificent immunities are spell-based and can wear off eventually. He might even be vulnerable to fire with some good DC adjustment. He met his end in melee combat.
