Fortress courtyard frost giant (chapter one)

i purchased a strategy guide for iwd2 which indicates i would encounter a frost giant upon leaving the goblin warrens level 2 and entering the fortress courtyard...
it didn't appear for me....glitch?...i tried reloading a save game from prior to entering area and still no frost giant...is there a frost giant?...
i don't have any mods installed....just the official game patch...
anyone else experience this?

Um...no frost giant that I know of. There are two Verbeeg in the courtyard that you encounter shortly after entering it. It's a good thing too - a frost giant would probably make very short work of your party at that level.

 

I have the guide and also didn't see the Frost Giant. They have a screendump of it so I guess it was in the version they were using.

Who knows?

 

Although i dont have a guide (like to play without it first time throught ) i didnt meet frost giant where you said it is. Diffrent version i guesses

 

had a thought about this phantom frost giant...maybe it spawns only in higher difficulty modes...so i tried it but still no cameo appearance...i still haven't tried heart of fury mode so maybe he/she(it) appears then?....anyone playing hof see this jumbo frosty?

 

No. No Frost Giant in HoF either.

 

You'll probably notice more such errors in most strategy guides that come out when the game is released. Usually the company that makes them gets a copy of the game that is still in production. Most of what they see and say is in there, is left in there but some things do get altered by the game developer and thus contradicts what the guide says. So I would not take it as gospel.

Also, the game adjusts encounters according to the power of your group. I have played with two very different groups through the same areas and met with some very different combos of monsters. The core ones are still there, but I have gotten extra monsters with one of my groups.
