Iron Golems are magic resistant and have damage reduction of 50/+3. So unless you use weapons of +3 or better enchantment, you'll have a tough time hurting it.

Yeah, you have to pick your weapon. I think for the Iron guys, piercing is better than blunt, but I forget. Beggars can't be choosers, though; if all you have is a +3 mace, swing batter-batter SWING! Poison is always an issue, too.

Try to surround him with all your people, and he'll concentrate on one person. Figure out which person he's locked on, and have that individual run around while everyone else swings at him and your cleric concentrates on casting healing spells. Pause as much as you need to, to get your bearings and issue commands.

[IMG] Listen kid, you don't need to be getting your clerics and other party members upity in trouble. Just summon up earth golems. if u've more than one cleric, use them both to summon up earth golems. personally, i summoned 6 golems and i whipped THE CRAP out of those stupid metal heads. The rest of your party doesn't even need to do ne thing. no jokes.

ok heres the jist you can not use magic on them so don't bother attacking them unless you have more then 4 fighters in your party with more then +3 wepons.
theres no good items there usually any way so its not werth it.

Yeah, it was pretty hard to take them down when I first encountered them.

I'm pretty sure I used a lot of summons (distraction for my fighters though they needed help from the poison) when I took down those four in plain vanilla IWD2 but it was simple in HoF when you have the HoF Kegsplitter axe :) (nice investment and you get a ton of xp to boot if you have low level characters in the party). I think they are susceptible to electrical attacks IIRC so try electrical based spells.

Do you mean the iron golems in the Black Raven Monastery Tomb? Take your best archer with lots of arrows of piercing and cast haste or improved haste. Get the rest of your party out of the way. Activate the golems and start running. Fire arrows at the golems whenever you get the chance. Concentrate fire on one golem at a time if possible. It takes a while, but they should fall and you should be more or less intact (maybe a bit of damage from their breath, but otherwise fine). You almost certainly can't take them on toe-to-toe.

Well, the Iron Golems in Black Raven tomb are pushovers.. Here's what you need to do.

    1) When you enter the chamber for the first time, just walk past them and head for the Underdark.

    2) When in Underdark, go buy some +4 weapons. Any type is OK, really, after one beats the 50/+3 damage resistance it's zero for all (physical) damage types.

    3) Now, the tricky part: Get your melee character up to AC 49 or more. (IIRC, the golems have attack bonus of +29 or something like that.) Deep Gnome monk rules here. Don't forget to buff up with Spirit Armor, Ghost Armor, Haste, Barkskin and Cat's Grace, and put on Brazen Bands.

    4) Wake up the golems and run away from their gas breath cloud and wait until they come to you. If they breath again, just repeat the procedure.

    5) Just slice & dice those metalheads, they shouldn't be able to even touch you now..

I am sure Broken_Wolf meant Earth Elementals. They were part of my tactic too.
Find a narrow way (there is one, which leads to the exit to Underdark IIRC), bring your party there. The path which you came on is enough only for one golem to walk on it at a time. And when it would reach your party (which is standing near the entrance to the Underdark), 2-3 Earth Elementals will give the golem a blunt welcome!
I had some highly enchanted arrows, so I used them too.

Worst comes to worst, pay a visit to the HoF mode Gallaway Trade Post with plenty of gold. You'll find this wonderful construct slaying axe there.

Elementals work, get many at one time and surround the iron golem. I don't remember what I did when I played paladin/diviner. Probably walked around invisible all over that level in Dragon's Eye ;)

Just make sure that other iron golems are not there: 3 Iron Golems would probably make debris from 3-4 Earth Elementals. As I have written above, if the Iron Golems keep following you, use narrow paths to solve the problem.

Actually, one iron golem would kill two fire elementals or get very close to it. I haven't really used any other elementals, so I don't know how they would fare here.

I liked Fire Elementals too, especially against cold-using creatures and all those who take bonus fire damage. The only problem which I experienced that Fire Elementals seemed to have bad (high) THAC0. I have not checked their exact THAC0 with any tool, but in game, Fire Elementals missed more attacks against the same creatures than Earth Elementals. That is why I used Earth Elementals in most of cases.

Sorry, it seems I forgot which forum I was posting. Thanks for reminding me.
Anyway, my statement still stands: Fire Elementals seem to have worse hit chances than Earth Elementals.

Doesn't fire heal an Iron Golem rather than hurt them?

    I have not checked this.
It may be: as far as I know (from BGII though, but experienced the same in IWD2 if I remember correctly) Iron Golems have 100% resistance to fire.
This might cause healing effect in IWD2, but I am not sure at all.
Anyway, in order to avoid such problems, I always summon Earth Elementals :D
