    Hi

    First the questions

I'm currently trying to make enough cash to buy the book (XP adding) but so far the only way to save up enough is by selling yeti pelts and at 140g per pelt I would have to kill at lest 400-500. Any way of accessing that much cash? Incidentally my cleric gets a better deal than my monk with mercentile skill..strange?

In chap 3 I undertook the mission to clean out the caves and have succeeded in wiping out the hook horrors and beetles. However i still can't claim the reward. I've been to every inch of the caverns but can't find anything else to kill. Help??

Why can't i pickpocket the sellers like in Planescape torment?

Now for the hints in case you haven't found em

When battling giants and other huge creatures in the battle square run directly behind the golem. the giants can't get at you but you can hack away without getting a single injury.

While exploring the last cave that causes the hook horrors to teleport in you can make your team invisible before going in . Your arrival triggers the teleport but the horrors can't locate you so the just stand around giving you enough time to set your team up

you guys have helped me out a lot so i thought i'd share my findings with ya'll

You cant pickpocket them for the items they have for sell, or that would make the game to easy.

As for running behind the golem, that does work, I had never realized you could but if the enemy is smaller than a cyclops it can get by, including a Shambler.

    Let's see...

To get enough cash, you need someone with a high Charisma to be the only one who ever deals with merchants. From the moment you start the game, sell at the best prices available (different merchants have different prices) and buy nothing that's expensive. If you do this, you might have enough cash for the book. It's hideously expensive, and is meant to be so.

The problem with the Hook Horrors happened to me as well the first time through. It is probably due to one of them having been stunned/held/paralysed when you killed it; for some reason, it doesn't register as "dead" even though it is. There's nothing to do except reload a save game, and take great care not to use paralysing magic.

As for pickpocketing the merchants (I assume you mean in the trading screen) that option is simply not in the game.

    Hope this helps. :)

Palladins and monks will refuse all money and most of other rewards. You should "talk" with other class character when you are collecting your rewards. Mercantile on palladin or monk is a bad idea - sorry.

I also solved most battles in battlesquare "from behind the golem". dman18 asked how you can get behind him - two characters are needed to succesfully block the door - yes, golem is a big char, but my dwarf fighter could get behind him and throw his various returning axes. This of course does not work with all opponents.

Danrand, about your Hook Horror problem: you don't need to try again with a save game, and in fact, it might not work anyway. There's a console command that will tell the game that you've killed them all and then you can get your reward and move on. Try a search on this forum and you'll find detailed instructions.

1- I am not sure to give 10 000 XP to 1 character is either a blessing or a curse, I didn't check how they make the XP awarding system, but having 1 character higher level might mean you get same xp as if all group was 1 level higher.

2- Just sell arrows and any throwable junk, you will be so rich you will not know what to do with cash, and honestly, you can handle every situation with plain regular non-magical arrows, why sacrifice real gear then? :p

3- Of course, make the character with the feat Mercantile background and high charisma handle all the talks, I buy EVERY expensive item except the throwable non-returning junk(I sell those) and store them in backpack. :p

    Danrand:

Have you killed all the monsters in the rooms along the central cave? (The one with all the Fire Beeltes etc.) You might have missed something there.

Also, there are the monsters in the botom of the cave (trolls, jellies and a Shambling Mound). These count towards the total, so you must kill them too.

Yup..I killed everything except for the dwarves. I even sent my party in several directions to draw out anything i might have missed. No luck.
I guess i won't get the "kill the raven monks" quest until i've cleaned out the monsters.

How can i do a search on this topic? What title/word should i use?

    Thanks
