what i did was have jaheira cast 2 spells of entangle into the room where the baddies were. then i had aerie cast the wand of cloudkill as well. mix in 2 or 3 fireballs, summoned creatures, etc. and the mage and familiar are dead and everyone else is weak enough to not be much of a problem. i hate how mencar kept healing himself when minsc was beating on him tho....

I was soloing a M/T and i think it quite a cool class combination.

Simply, hid in the shadows and walked up to the mage and backstabbed him. (dead mage). Ran down (oil of speed). and it was quite simple from that point on. Run away, hide in shadows, backstab, repeat.

Hmm. . . Such powerful weapons and spells. My 1st time through best weapon was the +2 2H-Sword from the genie and could cast 2 4th lvl mage spells at best. After I reloaded from being suprised w/ 4 killed, I just lobbed 2 Fireballs in the room and ran down the stairs. The dwarf, Berzerker & familiar followed into bar and from there ran outside. Only the fighters emerged and we taught them some lessons from The Back-alley Braw handbook (mages LOVE kicking fighters when they're down). Entering back into the bar the imp was cheesecake and then bum-rushing the room with a quick wrap-up of the crying, familiar-less mage and thief. Sometimes the best battle cry is "Run away!!"

The reason I had acess to cloud kill was that I had imported a character from BG1 with more experience. So I got those 2 level 4 spells right off the bat, and when I was done with Irenicus's Dungeon I had level 5's.

That fight is extremely tough though it can be beaten quite easily with the right plan as lord sarevok said. It took me ages to get strong enough to beat them but I'm sure I could come up with a much better plan now than back then (I rarely go in there...).

Well I usually start with Mencar and friends after escaping Irenicus's dungeon. My tactic is to backstab the sorcerer first, then charm Pooky and use him against the fighters and the thief, by casting slow and charming them. I try to slay the thief fist because he escapes as the fight gets tough. Mencar and Cameluv Orcslicer is not that big problem after I got rid of the mage and the assassin. Pooky takes care of 'em!

Heh, normally(with a larger party) I like to charm the thief and have him backstab with mage, and have my theif or yoshimo backstab pooky. That evens it out a little. Then I send the thief to the barbarian as cannon fodder. Yay, now there's only 2 left! If I had traps set I run out to them, if not I have Jaheria cast Iron Skins then shapeshift into a big bad brown bear and pummple mencar, while yoshimo helps with his bow, and I attack him as well. I usually try to take him out of the battle with hold or something though, makes it a lot easier.

I usually takeout Pookey first...since the mage looses hitpoints when Pookey dies. The the mage, then theif....then the tanks. Hold person and web/entangle also work well.

We named our Mourning Dove Pookey after this :).
