[IMG] I kinda wondered how you can create the best character that would apply in a party and for solo? ... in Icewind Dale 2 of course! :)

    Any class and multi/dual class.

Of course without using Dalekeeper and such.. :p

I played through BG, BG2 + TOB, IWD, and now IWD2, but have never really got a kickass character that just "slayed them all of their feet".

Almost every IWD 2 player agrees that sorcerers are the best characters in this game. At higher levels they got GREAT spells, both offensive and defensive, and with some good scores they have a lot of spells.

Melee character can also be very powerfull. A high lvl (25+) Deep gnome, svirfneblin, monk will be most powerfull in melee. They have high AC (but in HoF AC isn't important) they got good damage and HIGH savingthrows and a bunch of spell and magic resistance

The only real important stat on a sorcerer is charisma, the more charisma, the more spells, so put everything in here.
Strength is almost completly useless, keep it at 10-12 or so. Dexterity is also not that important, if your sorcerer is in a party, you could give him some dex around 16 and get him a ranged weapon. Constitution is completly up to you. Intelligence is quite usefull, set it around 15+ for some extra skills and a few thievingskills like search and some other usefull skills. Wisdom isn't that important for a sorcerer, don't mind to much about this stat.

For the monk, get your wisdom as high as possible, it makes your AC a lot higher. Also set strength not to low, it can be usefull. Get some high dex, for both your hide in shadows and some armor bonus, and also, for soloing your thievingskills. Charisma is totally unimportant, but if you're going solo, don't set it at lowest because it will affect your conversations. Intelligence can be set to 12, you don't need it but at 12 you get extra skills.

Now this is all think about it. I'm not quite the expert, but I think this is about right.
Maybe some experts also post a reply, rely on those :D

    anyway, good luck!

Edit: Hi again, just wanna add something to my first post.

For party play, always take a Fighter 4/ Barbarian x wielding a great sword.
You have 4 lvls of figher for your weapon specialisation and other skills, the rest into barbarian for raging.

Also alway take a druid or a cleric. I suggest the druid, he got some great summoning and offensive spells!

If you will solo you should get sorcerer as almost everybody here will suggest. MC him/her with paladin may be advisable for saving throws, HP and such.
Svirfneblin monk will have high AC, damage, speed, special abilities and great spell resistance which will make him/her a good warrior. But in HoF ???

[IMG] Both.. HoF and Normal mode...
I guess if you had stats and classes for the best solo characters you could throw them into a party that would be unbeatable... ;)

btw. I thought you couldnt MC a Paladin because of the restriction rules ???

EDIT: and where can I find the Svirfneblin ???

Well, you can give him 1 level of Paladin (if he is LG of course) which is enough. If you give him one more level of sorcerer he can't level up as a Paladin again.
But you only need 1 for the saving throw bonus (which is 90% of the reason for this :) ) and spellcasters shouldn't be multiclassed more than absolutely necessary anyway IMO.

You can MC a paladin with sorcerer if you choose "Paladin of Mystra" as your order. Be sure your alignment is Lawful Good.
Svirfneblin is deep gnome so your can find one in races section, I guess.

Don't get flamed so fast. I must confess that IWD2 is my first experience with RPG of any kind. (Diablo was something different, no rolls, skills or such)
It is good to learn. :book:

    +3 is high, yes

But he CAN reach lvl 30, so there is not a major disadvantage...only in the beginning he will be somewhat behind.
But the deep gnome has A LOT of GOOD bonusses to compensate the +3 ECL

Just one note on the sorc: Would have made it asimiar or drove, because of the charisma bonus. And if you survive the drow ECL, the extra MR is realy handy. + IF your sorc is LG, make a big thought about making her MC 1 lvl to paladin, the avenger i nice to use on her, no need for dispel magic, you get magic resistanse, but most important of all: You'll get a MAJOR boost on your savingthrows (Charismabonus) :D

Other than that I se no problems :D ..... ofcourse I only play solo sorc.... HoF

The party looks good, you should get really far with it, just one question. Why don't you replace your second fighter 4/barb with a monk or a fighter / rogue. A deep gnome monk is gonna be REALLY powerful and become your best mage killer. Also a fighter/rogue can make a great scout/thief/backstabber. I think you will be better of with one of these 2 characters then with another, exactly the same tank.

    Good luck

Edit: by the way, if you will pick a fighter/ rogue...get him high dex, average str and equip hum with small blades and give him ambi, two weapon fighting and weaponfinesse feats

Stormcast: can I give my sorcerer a level in Paladin and after that continue to give her level ups in sorcerer ?

Or do I have to delete her and create her again afterwards ?

No you can't. You have 3 classes of paladins, one that can proceed with paladin levels after putting 1 or more levels in fighter, one class with wizards and one class with rogues. So no sorcerers. You need to start a new character, make him a pally, and give him only paladin levels from then.

    Good luck

I guess he means, deleting the character, and import a new one. And if you don't want to start over the whole game, level him up using the console (cheating).

If you don't know how to do this:
Go to your recordscreen of the sorcerer, and write down the amount of XP he has. Now give al of his equipment to another character in the party.
Now press 'c' during gameplay. (make sure you have the cheat console enabled in the config-program). Now click 'modify characters'. Create your new character, a paladin (but with the stats/feats/skills you want on your sorcerer of course), now click 'done' and you will be back in gameplay, but with a level 1 character. Now select the paladin, press CTRL + TAB. In the textbar on the bottom of your screen type:
ctrlaltdelete:setcurrentxp(<xp of the sorcerer he had before, the ammount you wrote down>), type this without the brackets so for example: ctrlaltdelete:setcurrentxp(13491)

Now hit enter, and you will have the xp you had with your sorcerer. Now level him up and put all the levels in sorcerer. Repick your spells/feats/skills etc. and there you go, your back with one paladin level

    Good luck
