[IMG] I am playing with only two characters. My problem is XP i quess it´s because my characters are at so high-levels (14 both) and since the end of capter 2 i haven´t got any experience from slaying monsters.

Because of the way, 3rd edition D&D rules where implemented in IWD 2. In the Icewind Dale 2 section of this side, you'll find some "fixes" for that, which allow you, if you want that, to still gain experience.

There is a reason for not getting exp it stops u from getting to high lvl and destroying the bossed with ease, instead of hacking add another character and they will lvl up speedily

Blame it on the dire 3rd edition XP rules for messing up the game.

I'm waiting with baited breath for some modder to design a mod that allows you to play the game with the superior 2nd edition XP rules (hint hint).

Problem is not it 3e. But in it's implementation.

DM should balance the monsters and the heroes. Human DM is able to do this. Or to give some XP for a battle where no XP should be given according to the mathematic evaluation. But try to implement it in a computer game.

Yes it is possible - I'd say that not only an engine should count XP points. Also designers should set minimal and maximal ranger for XP given for particular part of a game: imagine, for slauthering a common goblin with a 10 level character yields no XP, but for slauthering a bunch of them could yield some XP to hero (or party). And the designers could have some freedom in changing monsters qualities according to heros (or party average) level.

I am playing with 4 and at the end of chapter 4, I stopped receieving xp at all... Which makes me quite angry... They are all 16 level, except the drow who is 14...

As noted by somebody else, Weimer's Ease of Use mod solves this problem extremely well. For a party of six under normal play, the XP usually dries up in Kuldahar and Dragon Eye. But with the Ease of Use mod, you keep getting some XP. Not much, but enough to make you feel like you are getting some reward for all your hard fighting.

How difficult would it be to do a mod that allowed you to play with 2nd edition XP rules? Weimer is currently converting the rules for use with BG2 so you'd imagine something like changing XP rewards would be child's play by comparison.

I'd love to fight the black dragon in Chult and get 60,000+ XP for killing it instead of the lousy 1,500 you get at the moment...

[IMG] I don't understand this fixation on absolute numbers for experience. What's the difference between getting 60,000XP when you need 6,000,000XP for the next level vs. getting 60XP when you need 6,000XP for the next level?

    One word: excitement!

Beating a really powerful enemy and getting 500 XP just isn't as exciting as beating a really powerful enemy and getting 65,000 XP.

Well, that's exactly what I don't get. Isn't the excitement in the challenge of the battle and the unique loot rather than an arbitrary absolute number?

I just don't get the exitement over seeing 65000 vs. 500 especially when those absolute numbers mean nothing with respect to your character's advancement. If anything, I'd rather see something like "You're now 10% closer to your next level!"

I much prefer the 3E XP rules (though perhaps not the IWD2 implementation). Rather than an absolute number, the XP reward is based upon the challenge the adversary posed to you at the time.
