Well, I'm trying a monk. It seems that I am not doing something right. He is a level 15. He gets only three hits with his fists. He hits with only one hand and does 12 damage only. He has a +4 to AC for wisdom and a +5 for dexterity.
    What am I doing wrong?

I don't think that you are doing something wrong...
I play a monk for the first time now, I always thought he'd suck, because his damage would suck and he couldn't wear armor.
I got a deep gnome monk now, he's lvl 12, and I think he's quite good...he has an AC of 32 and does about 11 damage average. And he almost never gets hit. Also his evasion and spell resistance is GREAT.

So I don't think you're doing something wrong. He will get more attacks at lvl 22...from lvl 12 to lvl 22 he has 3 attack according to his BAB table. So nothing wrong there...also the damage is also ok. Monks just gets a lot more powerfull at the higher levels. So don't worry :D

    Good luck

In HoF at level 15 I took him into the Raven's monastery. They ate him alive in the first challenge room. He couldn't kill anything. What level does he need to be to get through the challenges? Also, I heard that he can get up to 8-9 attacks with his fists. Why does he only have 3 attacks? Where is the info on the monk and when he gets more attacks? I think the max is 5 for other characters. With two weapon attack, they get plus one attack. If you haste them, the limit is still five I think.

    At lvl 30 his attacks are: +22 +17 +12 +7 +2
    So 5 it is..

Monks will gain max 5 attacks per round as well as others. But the difference is monks gain 1 attack for every 3 BABs where others will gain one for 5 BABs IF MONK FIGHTS WITH BARE HANDS.
Monk will gain 3 BAB for every 5 levels. Reaching +4 BAB at 6th level to gain 2nd attack.
Monk BAB bonuses are as follows:
    Level 1 +0
    Level 2 +1
    Level 3 +2
    Level 4 +3
    Level 5 +3
    Level 6 +4/+1
    Level 7 +5/+2
    Level 8 +6/+3
    Level 9 +6/+3
    Level 10 +7/+4/+1
    Level 11 +8/+5/+2
    Level 12 +9/+6/+3
    Level 13 +9/+6/+3
    Level 14 +10/+7/+4/+1
    Level 15 +11/+8/+5/+2
    Level 16 +12/+9/+6/+3
    Level 17 +12/+9/+6/+3
    Level 18 +13/+10/+7/+4/+1
    Level 19 +14/+11/+8/+5/+2
    Level 20 +15/+12/+9/+6/+3

However, be aware that small monks will do less damage and walk slower but gain the same BABs.
If you fight using weapons, you'll gain 1 extra attack for every 5 BABs.

So I guess at level 25, it's better to use something other than a monk. Also, if he used a weapon at level 15 say, he would get 3 attacks at more than twice the damage; or if he was hasted you would get the max 5 attacks either way.
So why would anybody want a monk in HoF, or for that matter, why in normal? The AC really is of no value that I can see in HoF -- maybe they lose the odd 4th or 5th attacks against me as my AC is in the 30's.

[IMG] Why would anyone want a monk!?!
    MY GOD MAN!

At level 30 monks will have 40% Magic resistance (81% if you are a deep gnome), the ability to kill 1 creature per day instantly, the ability to enter an etherial state for ten seconds 15 times per day, has damage reduction 20/+1, is the fastest character in the game, can eveade just as well as a rogue, does 1d20+1d10 damage with a +4 enchantment, is immune to poison, disease, and fatigue, and can heal himself at 60 hp per day.

A monk is by far the best melee character in the game, you just have to use him right.

I think monks are very useful. At least they are good alternatives to ordinary fighters and absolutely the best "mage killers" in the game.
So, lordvan had a point on that; however, telling that they are the best fighters, is very subjective. The truth is; monks get really powerful once they get higher levels. Monk is about level.
