"It has been announced by J.E. that he has eliminated all uncontested rerolls in an effort to balance the game.

    For instance when....

...rolling hit points you always recieve the maximum.

...when picking pockets you either succeed or get a message "you are not skilled enough to pick pocket" without being attacked by hoards of angry NPCs.

...when memorizing spells you either succeed or you recieve a message that says " you are unable to memorize this spell" without the scroll vanishing.

And so on and so forth."

So far, this news as been well received by the BIS fans. What do you think????

[IMG] Hmmmm....That kinda sucks actually. The biggest consequence to pickpocketing is getting caught - and being attacked! I think I prefer the old way on that.

The hit points I'm ambivalent about - I'm not opposed to getting the maximum hit points per level up, nor am I upset if I've gotten fewer than the maximum.

Adding spells to the inventory automatically does upset me a bit though. The chance of failure should always be a possibility unless you were a tenth level mage trying to scribe a 1st level spell. I think it makes the game more challenging when there's a possibility of failure - especially in IWD where magic scrolls seemed to be at a premium. There were several instances during the game where my mage had slots available for higher level spells, but I hadn't found any spells to scribe. It made the game harder and more interesting at the same time.

I think this is a good idea. Because no one that gets caught pickpocketing suffers the consequences anyway, everyone just reloads. And if you piss off some crucial NPCs like that and they attack you, game's over anyway and you need to reload. This is just confusing to newbies who don't know that they can ruin they game that way.

As for the rest... Well most people turned the HP to Max in IWD1 as well, so that's no biggie. The yes/no to spells is debatable, but still, 99% of people who failed to write a scroll just reloaded till they got it through.

Talultain; You are quite right. The main goal is to try to mynimise the re-loads as much as possible. What is the point of failling if all you have to do is re-load and try again??

yeah, lets make everything an automatic success for maximum results.

The pickpocket issue doesn't bother me; personally, I think pickpocketing should just be dropped from this type of game. But that's another issue. Tal's point about screwing up the game is decisive to my way of thinking.

The rest of it just seems like "well, most people cheat, so lets make the cheat the rule". Seems kind of silly to me. Besides, isn't most of that stuff (max hit points, no spell failure, etc) implemented in the easier difficulty settings?

    Aloha
