Ok, I've played the prologue three times so far, each time Ive had charas with Darksight, but I cant find any reference on how to use Darksight...

    ...so how does it work??

I wish I would have bought just the game instead of that dumb "we cant sell our product" packaging that has IWD, HOW and the soundtrack... liked the soundtrack though. :) I'd probly have gotten a better instruction booklet. -sigh-

If you mean Infravision, then it works by itself. Wait until night or go into a dark cave or something, then select the character with Infravision, and all creatures, including party members should glow red.

Dark Vision, the inate ability of the Drow, and a few other races...
The character state icon with the head, and the < extending from the eye.

If you are talking about the Drow's Dayblindness stuff, where they are blind when outside, then the opposite, which I guess would be Darksight, would just mean that they only see and night or in the Dark (though I never found a difference in abilities).

hell I'm confused. The only 2 terms similiar to "darkvision" is infravision or perhaps day blindness. I have never seen "dark vision" used in the game though.

Prehaps there is a translation problem in the manul. Anyone know about any translation problems in the drow version of the manul?

If its like in pnp, Infravision allows the character to see infrared light, ie body heat. This functions in totally lightless areas. Darkvision, on the other hand, simply allows a character to see better in the dark. Also, darkvision allows one to distinguish between colors, with infravision, it's like the Predator.

Ok folks... I bought the Adventure pack or whatever its called, came with both versions of the game IWD1, the x-pack HOW, and IWD2; plus three bonus cd's The only manual i got with the book was a tiny square one. It lists Darkvision on pages 24 and 60, niether of which tell how to activate it.

Didnt think such a simple question could be so hard to answer... heh.

Darkvision does not need to be activated. If one of your chars has it, and you have group darkvision, it will come to use automatically for your party.

darkvison is black and white only. infrared is red/white i think. i've played enough drow in my days to get annoyed at not being able to see colors at night.

Darkvision is described in the game (or was it Baldur's Gate of Neverwinter Nights). Either way it works automatically.

According to the D&D handbook(v3.5) it seems that Infravision is split up in two , Low-Light Vision and Darkvision.
They are both racial traits (so it is in use all the time) , but Darkvision also comes as a spell.

Darkvision : black and white only , otherwise like normal sight , range up to 60 feet.

Low-Light Vision : you can see twice as far as a human in starlight , moonlight , torchlight and other conditions of poor illumination ; you retain the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.

I hope this shed some light.
